In August of 2017, Georgia Power selected Bechtel to complete construction of the two-reactor expansion of a nuclear power plant near Augusta, Georgia. Plant Vogtle Units 3 & 4 will be the first new units built in the U.S. in the last three decades and are currently the only new units being constructed in the country.

At the peak of construction, this vital project will employ up to 5,000 on site. These positions will include building tradespeople, engineers, field supervisors, construction and project managers, quality assurance professionals, safety professionals, procurement, subcontract specialists and many others.

This position may be required to work a schedule of rotating shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays. All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for

the duration of their assignment. The ability to obtain/maintain access to the facility is required.

Role Overview

1. Provide support as required to the construction team reporting directly to the Metrology/3D Scanning Manager.
2. Execute activities relating to construction engineering, verification of the layout of foundation locations, equipment locations, structural steel placement, subcontract work, and engineering liaison with the design functional group.
3. Use design drawings, model and specifications to determine associated plant and equipment locations.
4. Works with field engineering to support field verification of materials as appropriate and needed.
5. Provides technical support as related to survey to Field Engineering and Superintendents in a wide range of situation and configurations.
6. Multi-Disciplined Field Engineering responsibilities with earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and piping, etc. installation experience.
7. Works under time constraints and must be adaptable to changing conditions and priorities and may be required to work extended work schedules or night shift.
8. Position will be located in Waynesboro, GA.


The Survey - Metrology Field Technician’s duties include, but not limited to, the following:

- Perform precise measurement with metrology equipment in compliance to ASME B89.6.2 Standards for virtual fit up

and verification of mechanical and civil component installation

- Collect scanning data as required

- Establish and verify Survey control networks

- Support the survey team’s implementation of the project safety, quality and environmental programs

- Perform Calibration Baseline checks of Metrology/Surveying instruments

- Perform and/or check survey computations as required in the performance of duties

- Provide project completion documentation including "As-Built" records or models

- Prepare survey CAD drawings or intelligent 3D models as required in the performance of duties

- Assist in the training in all of the related hardware and software platforms to subordinates

Basic Qualifications:

- A recognized Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline and or work experience leading to an advanced understanding of the technical knowledge described above.

- Minimum 5 years Industrial Surveying/Metrology experience.

- Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience

- Experience with Laser Trackers and related software a must

- Versed in multiple software platforms Geomagic, Polyworks, RealWorks, LFM, Civil 3D, Solidworks and Spatial Analyzer

- Knowledge of construction survey principles

- Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities

- Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner

- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with other departments and contractors

- Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications

- Excellent problem solving ability

- Must have the legal right to work in the US

- Ability to gain un-escorted access to a nuclear facility

Preferred Qualifications:

- Demonstrated proficiency with 3D CAD software, including the ability to perform or check digital computations for generation of 3DLS data and drafting of as existing conditions/as-built data.

- Experience with 3D Laser Scanning hardware and software

- Working knowledge of Bechtel construction procedures

- Knowledge of Bechtel’s “Zero Accidents” safety program

- Knowledge of Bechtel quality standards

- Awareness of government compliance standards
