The Riyadh Metro project is a consortium led by Bechtel which includes Almabani General Contractors, Consolidated Contractors Company and Siemens.

The consortium will be responsible for the design, construction, train cars, signalling, electrification and integration of Lines 1 and 2 of the new Riyadh Metro system.

Line 1 will stretch from north to south across Riyadh, covering 24 miles (38km). It will include 22 stations and four transfer stations where it will connect with other new metro lines. Much of Line 1 will be underground.

In contrast, Line 2 will be built mostly on a raised strip in the median of the planned freeway. This line will run east to west and will extend more than 15.7 miles (25km) with 13 stations and three transfer stations.

The new lines will feature stations powered by renewable energy and fully automatic trains.

The contract is the largest engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract in Bechtel’s history and these lines, along with four others, will form the backbone of Riyadh’s new public transportation network.

General Job Description

Reporting to the CWJV Assurance & Certification Manager the position holder will support the planning, development and implementation of an efficient and effective asset management system. The Asset Engineer will have direct interface with counterparts within Transit Systems (Siemens) as the Riyadh Metro systems provider and lead for the input of data into the Assets Database. The work will encompass coordination and development of JV documentation and review of asset schedules from designers, equipment suppliers, installers, and test and commissioning entities. During the project implementation phase the Asset Engineer will support the collection and review of asset performance data using various processes and tools based on a Defect Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (DRACAS) approach.

Position Duties/Responsibilities

- Act as the JV’s focal point working with internal partners and external subcontractors leading the breakdown of all civil and MEPF assets in accordance with the applicable procedures and tools;
- Support the development and maintenance of procedures and processes for the various stages of asset lifecycle for assets;
- Be cognizant and support as required the JV’s effort for asset naming/tagging, room naming, and other asset related identification activities;
- Create and seek approval from stakeholders on the structure breakdown of assets related to all JV’s work packages such as Stations, Tunnels, Park & Rides, etc.
- Populate the required breakdown using Excel and other databases in preparation for data migration to an on-line asset management system;
- Support and work alongside the Transit Systems partner (Siemens) and other entities to manage, validation and update the assets database throughout the build/installation, testing & commissioning and trial run phase of the project;
- Liaise with the BACS Configuration Manager in support of change control and management of asset Configuration Items;
- Identify and assist in managing non-compliances to relevant Employer requirements or standards;
- Carry out procedural compliance audits to applicable processes;
- Support development of assets management training material;
- Support the development and implementation of the assets maintenance program;
- Support asset hand-over process and prepare relevant documentation for hand-over.

Position Skills

- Related experience in systems engineering and MEPF systems design and asset management. Preferred experience in major rail, civil and infrastructure projects;
- Hands-on experience with electronic databases for asset management such ‘SAP’, IBM Maximo or equivalent;
- Preferred knowledge of systems safety assurance verification and validation processes during design, manufacture, installation and testing & commissioning;
- Full project life-cycle experience is preferred;
- Client interface experience and engagement with contractors and subcontractors;
- Demonstrable competence and experience in a civil, MEP and operations & maintenance environment;
- Proven organization skills and ability to negotiate with and influence stakeholders;
- Must be a skilful communicator and able to build rapport easily;
- Capable of working independently;
- Problem solver supporting colleagues at all levels.


- Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry related qualification (diploma) or experience;
- Membership of relevant engineering institution or similar (desirable).
