Project Overview:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be required to participate in the planning, staffing, and budgeting of project expediting operations. You will distribute workload, monitor assignments, evaluate production schedules and progress, and develop procedures. You will contact suppliers, initiate follow-up, monitor quality, and prepare supplier evaluations. Your planning and problem solving will ensure expediting operations meet project needs.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Operating with autonomy within procedures, guides and corporate tools of Expediting.
  • Managing medium-to-high complexity supply orders and packages, with a direct impact on the project schedule.
  • Executing post-award activation activities, ensuring tracking of manufacturing, inspection, submittals, and dispatch in accordance with the terms of the approved order and schedule, which includes liaising with suppliers for timely submission of engineering data and tracking material procurement, production progress, and shipment.
  • Your contribution has a tangible impact on mitigating delays risks, status visibility, and reliability of committed dates.
  • Participating in the planning of Activation tasks.
  • Representing the Activation team, if necessary, at project team meetings.
  • Evaluating production schedules and supplier progress reports to determine if supplier schedules and job progress meet jobsite requirements.
  • Coordinating with Engineering the timely review, approval and return of the engineering data submitted by the suppliers.
  • Participating in pre- and post-award meetings to review and discuss timelines and potential problem areas that may affect required shipping dates.
  • Coordinating shipment or follow-up requests with the project's Logistics representative.
  • Reviewing orders, revisions, and associated documents, confirming that suppliers and sub-suppliers comply with approved processes and dates.
  • Keeping the monitoring information updated in the expediting and tracking tools, managing deviations and proposing recovery actions.  
  • Identifying, marking and following up on critical items, coordinating their resolution with suppliers and the project team.  
  • Coordinating closely with Supplier Quality, Purchasing, Engineering, Logistics and Construction, ensuring alignment of information and priorities.
  • Participating in Supply Chain risk management instances, providing relevant information on supplier performance and capacity when required.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) related to the position and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient in schedule interpretation to ensure that realistic milestones are set, required activities are completed on time, and that interface between activities is maintained.
  • Skilled in preparing clear, comprehensive correspondence and reports.
  • Knowledge of general business practices and administrative procedures and oral communication regarding technical and production matters with both project personnel and supplier.
  • Knowledge of equipment and material fabrication sequencing.
  • Ability to interpret contractual terms, schedules and technical requirements relevant to the delivery of supplies.
  • Experience working in matrix environments, with multiple interfaces and working under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing sequence of equipment and materials.  
  • Experience in techniques of expediting of materials and equipment. Working and process familiarity with Engineering, Planning and Scheduling, Construction, and Procurement practices and an understanding of manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Experienced in the supplier warning and advisory process.
  • Experienced in Procurement processes and procedures.
  • Experienced in developing and maintaining metrics reporting.
  • Proficient in the use of management tools (Oracle, Aconex, EBS, Unifier, ETA, etc.).
