Yanacocha Water Treatment Plant (WTP):

Located 800 km northeast of Lima, Peru, Yanacocha is South America’s largest gold mine. The WTP Project consists of two of the largest acid water treatment plants in South America (the West one with capacity of 3,000 m3/hour and the East one with 2,700 m3/hour). Early works are currently being performed on site, preparing the permanent platforms and laydown areas for the East and West plants, in addition to the Class 2 estimate, Level 3 schedule and Execution Plan.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be required to supervise and direct operations within the tanks discipline. Supervise and direct tanks craft, subordinate supervisors, and others, as assigned. Ensure assigned construction performance is following specifications and within schedules and budgets.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Providing ES&H leadership to personnel assigned to the tank and storage department. This includes preparation and implementation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings and participating in safety investigations.
  • Inspecting site for unsafe conditions and practices and taking appropriate action to correct deficiencies.
  • Monitoring the activities of craft to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.
  • Being responsible for the cost, schedule and optimization of craft labor and maintaining the overall construction schedule, the 90 day and four weeks look ahead schedules for labor and equipment.
  • Reviewing craft time records using established automated tools.
  • Preparing material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through Procurement to obtain these materials.
  • Planning the manpower and equipment required to execute the job.
  • Preparing reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.
  • Performing employee reviews and identifying training and development opportunities for subordinate tanks personnel.
  • Coordinating activities with other discipline superintendents or area superintendents and client resident representatives, as necessary to meet project objectives. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) related to the position and 10-13  years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience working in a field construction environment understanding specifications, vendor procedures, instructions and codes with working knowledge of API-650.
  • Knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW, FCAW, SAW and the use of Automatic Girth Welding Machines, Flat Tractors and automated insulation machines.
  • Knowledge of large crawler cranes, tower cranes, SPMT and heavy lifting programs.
  • Technical knowledge of tank construction equipment and tools.
  • Knowledge of the requirements for Lock Out labeling.
  • Heavy industrial direct contracting construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be performed.
  • Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets and database applications.
  • Ability to work with multinational employees and in different languages, and ability to train less experienced team members and provide mentoring to others.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to lead and manage change.
  • Proficient in English.
