Yanacocha Water Treatment Plant (WTP):

Located 800 km northeast of Lima, Peru, Yanacocha is South America’s largest gold mine. The WTP Project consists of two of the largest acid water treatment plants in South America (the West one with capacity of 3,000 m3/hour and the East one with 2,700 m3/hour). Early works are currently being performed on site, preparing the permanent platforms and laydown areas for the East and West plants, in addition to the Class 2 estimate, Level 3 schedule and Execution Plan.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for the supervision and organization of the planning, safety and quality of the project pre-commissioning activities in the Eastern area. You will identify risks and trends, prepare and review procedures for testing, manage progress reports and proactively course correct to ensure objectives, deadlines and requirements are met.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the project Pre-Commissioning Manager, the Pre-Commissioning Area Leader has overall responsibility for supervising and directing the pre-commissioning activities of the multidisciplinary Project team. This includes coordinating with the other disciplines and organizations to prepare and execute a plan to complete all vacuum and water tests within their area of responsibility.
  • Leading the multidisciplinary Pre-Commissioning team of the project, assigning priorities and making continuous and daily monitoring of the execution of the scheduled tasks.
  • Reviewing and supervising the construction and Pre-Commissioning schedules, resource histogram and the requirements of materials and equipment, for a correct execution of the activities.
  • Leading the impact of interferences on the interfaces with construction to ensure that they coincide with the established general schedules and do not impact on dates and safety of the project.
  • Preparing activity plan and tests at component level, at subsystem level and integrated tests at system level.
  • Leading meetings with the different project and client teams, reporting progress, identifying critical work and actions to be performed.
  • Preparing, awarding and managing specialized subcontracts as needed to support pre-commissioning activities. Provide training as needed.
  • Ensuring that the Blocking and Labeling process (LOTO) for energy isolation is followed to the letter in each of the associated field activities.
  • Preparing detailed plans for the pre-commissioning in vacuum and with water of the project and managing the protocolization of all disciplines and ensure with the Turnover team the correct update and completed in the Smart Completions databases.
  • Directing, carrying out and participating in the process of Turnover / delivery of the subsystems / systems, both from construction to Commissioning, including the development, monitoring and resolution of the items on the to-do list (punch list) of the area of responsibility.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires degree in Electrical Engineering, with more than 10 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams and execution of tests in vacuum and with water of water processing plants or similar.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in pre-commissioning and commissioning.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep knowledge in the philosophies of operation and control of water processing plants or similar.
  • Relevant experience in reverse osmosis testing, ultrafiltration and high-density processes.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and industry standards applicable to mining projects in Peru, and of the design criteria relevant to process systems for the development of vacuum and water testing plans and procedures.
  • Previous experience with Bechtel start-up processes and procedures, in addition to managed/supervised start-up activities on one or more large-scale projects.
  • Must be able to read and understand/interpret electrical schematics, SLD, wiring, instrument loops and mechanical drawings of PFD.
  • Technical knowledge of commissioning, operation, maintenance or testing and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering and commissioning methods.
  • Responsible for reviewing project designs and making recommendations for design changes to make projects safe during the water testing process.
