Yanacocha Water Treatment Plant (WTP):

Located 800 km northeast of Lima, Peru, Yanacocha is South America’s largest gold mine. The WTP Project consists of two of the largest acid water treatment plants in South America (the West one with capacity of 3,000 m3/hour and the East one with 2,700 m3/hour). Early works are currently being performed on site, preparing the permanent platforms and laydown areas for the East and West plants, in addition to the Class 2 estimate, Level 3 schedule and Execution Plan.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for leading a work team and executing tests in the area of the mechanical discipline of the pre-commissioning project of acidic water treatment plants, considering remote pumping of acidic water from leaching wells to acidic water treatment plants containing ultrafiltration processes, reverse osmosis, active media filters, high density sludge (HDS), oxidation reactors, lime plants, pumps (submersible, multi-stage, centrifuges, vertical and screws), industrial air compressors and instrumentation assuming the technical and functional responsibility for the requirements of electromechanical and safety equipment. You will work in an integrated way with other disciplines (processes, instrumentation, control, electrical and ES&H), ensuring that all pre-commissioning, vacuum and water activities are executed with safety, efficiency and reliability standards.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring accurate monitoring in the execution of all mechanical tests.
  • Supervising the subsystem test groups with safety, quality and effectiveness to enable the functionality of the mechanical equipment with their respective corresponding test protocol records; high multidisciplinary coordination with other processes, instrumentation, control, electrical, piping and ES&H specialists (safety, health and environment).
  • Ensuring compliance with the pre-operation check standards of mechanically operated equipment with their respective data logging, safety protocols and regulatory requirements for mechanical equipment for the assembly of CRP folders.
  • Reviewing, validating and approving the authorization and work permits with the ES&H area of the acidic water treatment project.
  • Validating and approving technical documentation of vendor reports, validation of water test reports (water run) with their respective functional parameters Measurement Checklist.
  • Solving engineering problems related to the specialty by applying agile methodologies.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Process Engineering with +5 years of experience in industrial projects and at least 3 years in acidic water treatment plants.
  • Experience in pre-commissioning, and commissioning of electromechanical systems. In acidic water projects: participation in design engineering, assembly and commissioning of pumps, submersibles, by stages, centrifuges, vertical, self-cleaning filters, Ultrafiltration, Reverse Osmosis, HDS (high density sludge processes) and lime slurry preparation plants.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Standards: ASME B31.3, API 610, API 650, AWWA/ANSI C651, ISO 9001/14001/45001.
  • Solid knowledge in mechanical protocols: hydrostatic testing, flushing, laser alignment, vibration, dynamic balancing, vacuum and water testing.
  • Knowledge of the functionality of multi-stage, centrifugal and submersible pumps, filtration systems self-cleaning filters, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, filters (cartridge, sand/active), air compressors, exchangers, tanks, pipes (stainless steel, HDPE, PVC), control/relief/check valves.
  • Solid knowledge in the use of vibration equipment (SKF Microlog Analyzer dBX CMVA 90-M-CK-SL- Standard Version), Vibration Analyzer with fluke 810 Diagnostic Technology, laser alignment (SKF Professional wireless laser Axis alignment System TKSA 71), V-belt alignment tools and red laser pulley, belt frequency meters.
  • Vacuum commissioning: vibration recording, mechanical alignment, free rotation, lubrication tests, equipment registration.
  • Commissioning with water: hydraulic tests, flow/pressure verification, calibration of filters and backwashes, leak tightness tests.
  • Managed multidisciplinary teams ranging from 10 to 20 members.
  • Mandatory computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Navisworks freedom, etc.)
