Yanacocha Water Treatment Plant (WTP):

Located 800 km northeast of Lima, Peru, Yanacocha is South America’s largest gold mine. The WTP Project consists of two of the largest acid water treatment plants in South America (the West one with capacity of 3,000 m3/hour and the East one with 2,700 m3/hour). Early works are currently being performed on site, preparing the permanent platforms and laydown areas for the East and West plants, in addition to the Class 2 estimate, Level 3 schedule and Execution Plan.

Job Summary:

In this role, the professional will be responsible for leading different areas of the mechanical discipline in pre-commissioning projects of acidic water treatment plants, considering remote pumping of acidic water from leaching pools to acidic water treatment plants containing ultrafiltration processes, reverse osmosis, active media filters, high density sludge (HDS), oxidation reactors, lime plants, pumps (submersible, multi-stage, centrifugal, vertical, screws) industrial air compressors and instrumentation assuming the technical and functional responsibility for the requirements of electromechanical and safety equipment. You will work in an integrated way with other disciplines (processes, instrumentation, control, electrical and ES&H), ensuring that all pre-commissioning, vacuum and water activities are executed with safety, efficiency and reliability standards.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Preparing daily, weekly and monthly technical progress reports on the testing of mechanical equipment, reporting to the Pre-Commissioning Leader of the mechanical discipline. It includes the monitoring, execution and supervision of tests under safety, quality and efficiency criteria, ensuring the functional qualification of mechanical equipment and its proper registration in the test protocols.
  • Guarantying compliance with the pre-operation standards of mechanically operated equipment, ensuring the correct data recording, the application of safety protocols and compliance with the regulatory requirements applicable to mechanical equipment.
  • Reviewing, validating and approving IPERC, as well as the authorization of safe and high-risk works, in coordination with the ES&H area of the acidic water treatment project.
  • Validating and approving the technical documentation and reports of the vendors of each equipment, including the water test reports (water run), with their respective functional parameter measurement checklists.
  • Verifying the safety conditions of the system, such as NPSH, design pressures, safety valves and emergency stop systems.
  • Solving engineering problems specific to the specialty, applying engineering principles, codes and accepted technical standards, as well as pre-commissioning methodologies.
  • Supervising and coordinating in the field of hydrostatic testing, flushing, tightness testing, alignment and functional testing in water pumping systems, ensuring the operational performance, mechanical integrity and reliability of the equipment.
  • Leading the execution of pre-commissioning checklists and mechanical matrices, ensuring the registration, control and traceability of operational parameters and test results.
  • Coordinating with the disciplines of processes, instrumentation, control, electrical, piping and HSE, ensuring the correct integration of activities during pre-commissioning and the safe and orderly execution of field tests.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or Industrial Engineering, with minimum 5 years of experience in industrial projects. Desirable to have at least 3 years of experience in acidic water treatment plants and water pumping systems. Proven experience in pre-commissioning and commissioning of electromechanical systems.
  • Experience in acidic water treatment projects, including participation in design engineering, assembly and commissioning of pumping systems (multi-stage, centrifugal, vertical and submersible pumps), filtration systems (self-cleaning filters, ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis), HDS processes (high density sludge) and lime slurry preparation plants.
  • Experience in pre-commissioning in vacuum, including the registration and analysis of vibrations, mechanical alignment, verification of free rotation, execution of lubrication tests and correct identification and registration of equipment.
  • Experience in pre-commissioning with water, including the execution of hydraulic tests, verification of flow rates and pressures, calibration and backwashing of filters, and tightness tests of systems and equipment.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Standards: ASME B31.3, API 610, API 650, AWWA/ANSI C651, ISO 9001/14001/45001.
  • Knowledge in the development and execution of mechanical pre-commissioning procedures, ensuring their correct application in the field and compliance with technical and safety standards of the project.
  • Mandatory computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Navisworks Freedom, etc.)
  • Solid knowledge in mechanical pre-commissioning and testing protocols applicable to water pumping systems, including hydrostatic testing, flushing, laser alignment, vibration analysis, dynamic balancing, and vacuum and water testing of pumps and associated equipment.
  • Strong knowledge in the use of vibration and alignment analysis equipment, including SKF Microlog Analyzer dBX CMVA 90 M CK SL and Fluke 810 vibration analyzers, SKF TKSA 71 laser shaft alignment systems, V-belt and pulley alignment tools, and belt frequency meters.
  • Knowledge of mechanical equipment, including multi-stage, centrifugal and submersible pumps; filtration systems (self-cleaning filters, ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, cartridge and media filters); air compressors; heat exchangers; tanks; piping systems (stainless steel, HDPE and PVC); and control, relief and check valves.
  • Desirable specialized knowledge in equipment operational condition monitoring and good reliability practices (alignment verification, vibration and temperature analysis of dynamic equipment), aimed at ensuring optimal operating conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams in the field, as well as experience in document management and execution of water tests, including pumping systems operating with flow rates in the order of 2,000 to 4,000 m3/h.
