Yanacocha Water Treatment Plant (WTP):

Located 800 km northeast of Lima, Peru, Yanacocha is South America’s largest gold mine. The WTP Project consists of two of the largest acid water treatment plants in South America (the West one with capacity of 3,000 m3/hour and the East one with 2,700 m3/hour). Early works are currently being performed on site, preparing the permanent platforms and laydown areas for the East and West plants, in addition to the Class 2 estimate, Level 3 schedule and Execution Plan.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for executing, directing and reporting the activities on your assigned work front of the Instrumentation and Control discipline in the Pre-Commissioning and commissioning team. The Instrumentation specialist will report to the I&C Leader of the area in which he is assigned. The Instrumentation specialist will provide technical support to other specialists.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Pre-Commissioning and commissioning team in activities associated with I&C, including checking schematics, loop checks, logic verification, checking alarms and setpoint, establishing communication links with other teams, attending delivery walks.
  • Performing specific activities associated with I&C such as testing with PLC/PCS and other systems supplied by third parties.
  • Planning the work related to I&C energizations and coordinate the daily activities of the Seller's representatives on the ground.
  • Leading and taking ownership of the I&C systems and lead towards the completion of the PCS tests and activities. Apply the general I&C and PCS procedures.
  • Managing changes within the I&C testing process, this includes changes to scope drawings (“scoped drawings"), issue NCR, FCD, redlines and other documents associated with PCS testing.
  • Leading and supervising the staff that will support the execution of schematic checks tests, loop checks, subsystem tests.
  • Updating I&C related test documents such as scope drawings, update database, inform and coordinate with the Delivery team ("Turnover").
  • Applying I&C test procedures and documents and support change management and follow-ups.
  • Identifying technical problems related to I&C and raising questions to the Process Leader of the Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning Area.
  • Working with Contractors and Seller's representatives to ensure that the test documentation is complete and correct.
  • Supporting LOTO activities during the preparation of the works and ensure full compliance with this program.
  • Working together with Pre-commissioning and commissioning Automation Engineers to achieve acceptance testing and system testing. Being responsible for the review and release of the security formats (IPERC, PETAR, ATS, etc.) on each assigned work front.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires an academic bachelor's degree or technical graduate in Mechatronics, electronics or other related specialty, with more than 8 years of relevant professional experience, and at least 7 years performing in a similar role. Extensive experience in the design and implementation of automation systems, preferably in the mining sector, mastery of PLC, PCS, SCADA and HMI programming and configuration. Experience with Control System (Rockwell) and Supervision system (Yokogawa) will be valued.
  • College-educated and qualified is desirable. 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement. It includes execution of tests during the Pre-commissioning and commissioning stages.
  • Knowledge and experience with I&C systems and PCS, preferably in the mining industry.
  • Knowledge of the I&C requirements to finish the Construction and for Pre-Commissioning Tests, all together with the PCS.
  • Knowledge of Instrumentation calibration, loop checking and Pre-Commissioning procedures.
  • Knowledge and experience of Pre-Commissioning Tests and Delivery Process (“Turnover").
  • Knowledge of the electrical insulation process, to perform I&C and PCS tasks safely.
  • Knowledge and Experience in the preparation of Work Safety Analysis Cards and the LOTUS process.
  • Leadership skills and supervisory capacity to the staffing of people who will participate in Pre-Commissioning activities related to I&C.
  • Computer skills, including experience with MS Office, TeamWorks, Aconex.
  • Previous knowledge and experience using Bechtel Construction (SWPP) and Pre-Operations (STCP) procedures is desirable.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage personnel and to solve professional problems and conflicts.
