Project Overview:
Yanacocha Water Treatment Plant (WTP):
Located 800 km northeast of Lima, Peru, Yanacocha is South America’s largest gold mine. The WTP Project consists of two of the largest acid water treatment plants in South America (the West one with capacity of 3,000 m3/hour and the East one with 2,700 m3/hour). Early works are currently being performed on site, preparing the permanent platforms and laydown areas for the East and West plants, in addition to the Class 2 estimate, Level 3 schedule and Execution Plan.
Job Summary:
This role, will be responsible for leading the process discipline with a focus on pre-commissioning tests according to engineering and design, through specialized knowledge of acidic water processing, ensuring safety and a high quality standard in the discipline's deliverables.
Major Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Pre-Commissioning manager, the process engineer has overall responsibility for reading, understanding and implementing all applicable project policies, practices and work procedures, ensuring at all times that water testing procedures are completed safely and to a high standard.
- Being responsible for aligning the design criteria, operating philosophy with the procedures to be presented, ensuring the correct generation based on the P&IDs, PFDs and process control strategies for the pre-commissioning plans and the rest of the documentation agreed with the client.
- Main responsibilities the pre-commissioning in the process discipline that includes the mapping of systems, facilities checklist, dry and wet tests, decongestion of bottlenecks giving timely solutions.
- Being responsible for the generation of proposals for water tests with Value in the process discipline according to the scope of the project and customer needs.
- Coordinating with the rest of the disciplines, client and vendors in a professional and collaborative way, seeking the success of the project.
- Providing valuable information to support decision-making by quantifying the process parameters in terms of flow and volumes, as well as identifying and mitigating the technical risk of the project. Examine problems carefully and thoroughly and understand their interdependencies to propose solutions.
- Participating in meetings with the client to determine timely strategies and solutions for the water testing process.
- Ensuring that all activities are implemented safely and coordinate with area and discipline leaders.
- Having the Safety, Health and Environmental (ES&H) concepts and procedures of the project incorporated into the day-to-day during the planning and execution of the tests.
- Working hours as required including overtime, weekends and holidays as required to support the project schedule.
- Performing other duties as directed in support of project activities.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or some related Engineering, with more than 15 years of relevant professional experience, and at least 10 years working in a similar role (includes development of water testing procedures for acidic water recovery systems, pre-commissioning and commissioning).
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of the regulatory and industry standards applicable to mining projects in Peru, and of the design criteria relevant to the process, for the development of test plans and procedures.
- Mandatory computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Previous experience with Bechtel start-up processes and procedures, in addition to managed/supervised start-up activities on one or more large-scale projects.
- Must be able to read and understand/interpret P&IDs, PFDs, control and operations philosophy.
- Technical knowledge of commissioning, operation, maintenance or testing and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering and commissioning methods.
- Responsible for reviewing project designs and making recommendations for design changes to make projects safe during the commissioning process.
