Project Overview:
Yanacocha Water Treatment Plant (WTP):
Located 800 km northeast of Lima, Peru, Yanacocha is South America’s largest gold mine. The WTP Project consists of two of the largest acid water treatment plants in South America (the West one with capacity of 3,000 m3/hour and the East one with 2,700 m3/hour). Early works are currently being performed on site, preparing the permanent platforms and laydown areas for the East and West plants, in addition to the Class 2 estimate, Level 3 schedule and Execution Plan.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will be the Quality Assurance Engineer for the Water Conveyance Systems (WCS) that includes the pipeline, pipeline crossings and pumpstation areas for the Mining & Metals team in the Yanacocha Water Treatment Project (Yanacocha WTP), based in Cajamarca, Peru.
Major Responsibilities:
- Supporting an effective implementation of the Quality Management System (quality assurance and quality control) and the Risk Management program, participating in the implementation of the associated programs/plans.
- Supervising quality activities on the project according to the Quality/Risk plan, and/or as instructed by the Quality Manager, and the Field Supervisor assigned.
- Performing audits and surveillances to assure quality and identifying and mitigating risks as input for the Quality planning and Risk Management program and evaluating the effectiveness of corrective actions and processing improvement activities associated with them.
- Reporting to Quality management of project quality problems and progress.
- Leading the implementation and monitoring of the Bechtel and Project quality programs, developing metrics and goals, facilitating causal analysis teams, and providing oversight of design validation and final inspection activities.
- Assuring that any company in the area are performing their construction work and processes under the quality assurance and quality control standards required.
- Providing oversight of design verification/validation, in-process inspection, and final inspection activities.
- Assisting in developing, implementing, and training quality system tools and procedures to support work processes.
- Participating and coordinating in independent assessments to enable the mitigation of technical and other issues impacting the quality of the project and/or increasing the risks for the project.
- Maintaining and supporting an efficient deployment of the quality management system elements and tools in the project.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires Bachelor's Degree in a relevant Engineering or Physical Science discipline from an accredited university or college with 5 years of progressive related Quality Assurance (QA) experience or in lieu of degree, a minimum of 7 years of progressive related QA experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:

- Previous experience working in quality assurance and quality control on projects.
- Previous experience working in Bechtel and previous experience in projects involving pipelines, pumping stations, and roads/pipeline crossing (preferred).
- Basic technical knowledge in the application of engineering, procurement, construction sufficient to comprehend requirements.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and functions that impact the QA program (preferred).
- Knowledge in risk management processes (preferred).
- Third party Auditor Certification.
- Proficiency in database and Microsoft Office tools suite.
- Qualified, enabled and available to drive light vehicles at Site, and permanent flexibility to be moved to other areas in the project according to project needs.
- Excellent Spanish written and verbal communications skills, and an intermediate level of spoken English required.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision, prioritize tasks, adapt to changing situations, and meet short deadlines.
- Demonstrated skills in planning, organization and schedule compliance (preferred).
- A high level of personal motivation, high standards, and the ability to work within changing situations to meet short deadlines (preferred).
