Yanacocha Water Treatment Plant (WTP):

Located 800 km northeast of Lima, Peru, Yanacocha is South America’s largest gold mine. The WTP Project consists of two of the largest acid water treatment plants in South America (the West one with capacity of 3,000 m3/hour and the East one with 2,700 m3/hour). Early works are currently being performed on site, preparing the permanent platforms and laydown areas for the East and West plants, in addition to the Class 2 estimate, Level 3 schedule and Execution Plan.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for executing and directing the activities on your assigned work front of the Automation and process control discipline, assume technical and functional responsibility for automation, control and safety system requirements, and work collaboratively with other disciplines.

This opportunity is ideal for a person with proven experience performing tests of all process control system equipment at different levels of automation and who can provide and identify timely, efficient and safe solutions during process control system testing.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Guaranteeing accurate monitoring of the tests of the control and process system, overseeing executing and supervising each test with safety, quality and effectively to enable the control and process system with its respective registration in its corresponding test protocol.
  • Being responsible for verifying the engineering design, configuration and programming of industrial control systems, including PLC (ControlLogix and others), and PCS – SCADA platforms (CI Server) during control system and process tests.
  • Leading the testing of automation systems according to engineering, supervising the installation, testing, commissioning and delivery of control system and process equipment.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety protocols and regulatory requirements for automation systems.
  • Coordinating with the project discipline and senior engineers to ensure the correct implementation of the engineering design of their specialty and coordinates the work of their assigned team within their specialty.
  • Reviewing engineering drawings and design documents as well as material and equipment specifications. You will solve engineering problems related to the specialty by applying accepted principles, codes and standards.
  • Preparing Monthly Technical Progress Reports, control system and process tests (SCADA, PLCs, communications equipment, etc.)
  • Being responsible for the review and release of the security formats (IPERC, PETAR, ATS, etc.) on each assigned front.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electronic Engineering or some related Engineering, with more than 8 years of relevant professional experience, and at least 7 years working in a similar role.
  • Qualified tuition by preference.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of the regulatory and industry standards applicable to mining projects in Peru, and of the design criteria pertinent to the process.
  • Extensive experience in the design and implementation of automation systems, preferably in the mining sector, mastery of PLC, PCS, SCADA and HMI programming and configuration. Experience with Control System (Rockwell) and Supervision system (Yokogawa) but with up-to-date knowledge of DCS and PLC systems (Rockwell) will be valued.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement. It includes execution of tests during the Pre-commissioning and commissioning stages.
  • Mandatory computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Previous experience with Bechtel start-up processes and procedures desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of precedents in the area of start-up or operations and a good knowledge of the principles and practices of related areas.
  • Knowledge of tests and standards related to optical fiber and its application in communication networks.
  • Technical knowledge of commissioning, operation, maintenance or testing. Demonstrable experience in managed/supervised start-up activities on one or more large-scale projects.
  • Must be able to read and understand/interpret P&IDs, PFDs, control and operations philosophy.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g. Ethernet IP, Modbus, Profibus, OPC). Familiarity with security systems such as SIS and SIL.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and proactivity in the face of technical challenges.
  • Computer understanding of control system networks. Experience in network architecture. Knowledge of Moderna automation and control applications, tools and methodologies.
  • Strong leadership skills, oral and written communication skills, enthusiasm and diplomacy.
