Project Overview:
Thacker Pass is critical to energy security in the United States. Situated on the largest known lithium deposit in the North America, the multi-billion-dollar mine and processing facilities will eventually produce more than 16 times the current U.S. yearly output of lithium. The battery-quality lithium carbonate made at Thacker Pass will be enough to power 800,000 electric vehicles each year. As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, Bechtel is responsible for managing and integrating the efforts of a team contractors engineering and building the facility. We are also managing procurement of about $1 Billion in goods and services.
The project is located in the high desert and wide-open spaces of north-central Nevada about 25 miles from the Oregon border, 1 hour northwest of Winnemucca, Nevada and 3 hours northeast of Reno.
Thacker Pass will need a full spectrum of engineering, construction, project management, and business professionals plus support services to enable successful completion. During your off time, enjoy mountain air and abundant outdoor recreation in northern Nevada or Lake Tahoe; restaurants, shopping, and shows in Reno; or travel a little farther to northern California, Las Vegas, or Salt Lake City.

Job Summary:
The Project HR Generalist will coordinate HR support for management and employees on Thacker Pass on a range of HR areas including staffing, onboarding, employee mobilization/demobilization, and tracking and facilitation of training. The successful candidate will possess working knowledge across a broad range of areas within HR. The Generalist will report to the Project HR Manager and will support and assist them on various Bechtel Professional staff issues, concerns, and enterprise programs.
This position begins with a short-term assignment in Houston, Texas for approximately 3 months and will then mobilize to Winnemucca, Nevada in 2Q2025. #LI-KL1
Major Responsibilities:
- Performs and implements a variety of human resources operations activities in one or several of these areas:
- Employee Services, Data Input, Employee Mobility, and Employment Administration.
- Interacts with employees, supervisors, and managers to answer and resolve inquiries/issues on HR policies, benefit, international travel, health, life, disability, retirement, domestic and international payroll, and others.
- Fields employee relations questions/concerns and routes appropriately.
- Coordinates tasks as needed such as data audits, record keeping, reporting, etc.
- Monitors and recommends improvements to existing human resources programs or procedures to ensure desired objectives and/or results are being achieved.
- Collects, assembles, and monitors data or information for personnel reports.
- Coordinates process improvement opportunities to drive operational efficiencies.
- Assists in the coordination and implementation of employee engagement initiatives.
- Processes SAP transactions, employee transactions, and compensation actions.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5 years of relevant experience or 9 years of relevant work experience in lieu of degree.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to interpret HR policy and processes and maintain confidential information.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with PowerBl and SmartStaff and SAP.
- PHR or CP Certified is a plus.
- Knowledge of Bechtel's organizational structure, human resources policies and procedures.
- Eight or more years broad-based HR experience is preferred.
- Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) proficiency is preferred.
