Project Overview:

The Plant Vogtle Units 3&4 project, located in Waynesboro, Georgia, roughly 20 miles south of Augusta, is being constructed under the terms and conditions of the Nuclear Power Construction Labor Agreement (NPCLA).  The two new units represent a $16 billion capital investment in Georgia. At its peak, the project will create approximately 6,000 union craft construction worker jobs prior to commencing operation in 2021 (Unit 3) and 2022 (Unit 4).  Vogtle Units 3&4 will be the first advanced Gen III+ units built in the United States and are currently the only new nuclear units being constructed in the country.

At the peak of construction, this vital project will employ up to 8,000 on site.  These positions will include building tradespeople, engineers, field supervisors, construction and project managers, quality assurance professionals, safety professionals, procurement, subcontract specialists and many others.

This position may be required to work a schedule of rotating shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.  All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment.  The ability to obtain/maintain access to the facility is required.

 

Role Overview

Implement and maintain Bechtel Field Welding program

  • Provide specialized welding engineering support for construction to ensure construction meets all code and Bechtel procedures
  • Assist in the management of the pre- and post-weld heat treatment program
  • Assist in the management of the rod room and rod room attendant to ensure all weld filler materials are controlled and meet Bechtel and Code requirements
  • Schedule and coordinate with construction and subcontractors for the best possible shooting schedule at the least cost and least impact to construction
  • Manage and monitor the welding test lab to insure high quality welders are being tested and hired
  • Work with the team to keep up to date with weld documents and ensure the credibility/accountability of the Welding Program
  • Manage issue and maintain welder qualifications and welder stamps
  • Perform field inspections of welding work, and advise on rectification of quality behaviors and defects prior to final inspection

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience
  • Demonstrated field welding experience on a major capital project
  • Strong background in welding with experience in preheat & post weld heat treatment is preferred
  • Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience
  • Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner
  • Strong supervision experience including the ability to lead and manage change is desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in liaising with and coordinating contractors
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
  • TEAMWorks and WITS database experience is desirable
  • Must be knowledgeable in ASME, AWS and other applicable industry standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Bechtel's SWPP 4MP-T81-03701 Welding Program, 03702 Welder Training & Instructor Qualification, 03703 Positive Material Identification, and 03705 Welding & NDE Documentation is desirable
  • Excellent problem-solving ability

  • A BS Degree qualification in Welding Engineering plus 13 years’ experience, or have equivalent industry experience with a minimum 19 years experience in welding and/or heavy construction
