This position may be required to work a schedule of rotating shifts including nights, weekends, or holidays.  All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of continued employment for the duration of their assignment.  The ability to obtain/maintain access to the facility is required.

 

Role Overview: 

Establishes routine industrial hygiene processes and programs on a project or in an office setting; assists with integrating specific industrial hygiene requirements into planning, design, and construction activities.  Interprets routine industrial hygiene requirements, evaluates and applies basic scientific principles, formulates scopes of work, develops and implements industrial hygiene plans, procedures and methodologies suitable for achieving industrial hygiene objectives, and provides technical assistance to industrial hygiene technologists.  May be assigned as an assistant industrial hygiene lead and typically works under a Senior Industrial Hygienist.

 

Principal Responsibilities: 

1.     Establishes routine industrial hygiene processes and programs on a project or in an office.

2.     Assists with integrating specific industrial hygiene requirements by providing input to the ES&H Manager/Supervisor regarding design criteria, construction plans, specifications, subcontracts, job hazard/safety analysis and permits.

3.     Interprets routine industrial hygiene requirements and regulations.

4.     Develops and implements routine industrial hygiene scopes of work and industrial hygiene plans, procedures, and methodologies to achieve industrial hygiene objectives.

5.     Specifies industrial hygiene equipment for use in field sampling and analyses of results.

6.     Participates in meetings with customers, project team members and contractors/subcontractors to advise them of industrial hygiene requirements that may affect project design, construction schedule, and cost.

7.     Conducts surveys and assessments of work activities to monitor compliance with industrial hygiene requirements including contractual commitments, corporate requirements, and data entry into the Industrial Hygiene Records System (IHRS).

8.     May provide technical direction to Industrial Hygiene Technologist.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Related Bachelors degree and at least 3+ years of related professional progressive experience.
  • In lieu of formal degree, at least 9+ years' related professional progressive experience.
  • Must possess legal right to work in US without sponsorship.
  • Must be physically capable to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk downs which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing in very small and/or confined spaces, and lifting up to 60 lbs.
  • Must be able to pass nuclear security screening requirements and be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to a nuclear power facility.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene standards, regulations, methodologies and resources.
  • Knowledge of industrial hygiene principles.
  • Knowledge of engineering, construction, and subcontract work processes.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and sampling methodologies.
  • Knowledge of engineering control systems to mitigate routine hazards.
  • Knowledge of routine instrumentation and their capability and use.
  • Knowledge of the types of general administrative control methodologies.
  • Knowledge of personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication and knowledge of computer applications.
  • Recognized degree in a specialized scientific field (e.g., occupational safety and health, chemistry, biology, zoology, engineering, or other acceptable fields) or equivalent experience.
