Job Summary:

The Government Affairs Assistant will support government affairs department activities. Responsibilities: monitor and research federal, state and municipal legislation, regulatory activity, congressional and legislative hearings, and publications that may affect Bechtel’s global business.  research business questions and prepare abstracts and reports. also handle administrative tasks and provide operational support. The role requires someone who can exercise accuracy, judgment, initiative, discretion, and flexibility while adhering to our company and department policies.#LI-AM3

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provide research on various assigned topics and produce reports, newsletters and analysis.
  • Compose and write analysis of policy and political issues as assigned; provide ongoing updates of legislative efforts and policy discussions.
  • Assist in monitoring federal legislation and regulation that may affect Bechtel’s domestic business. Monitor legislative and regulatory activity and congressional hearings. 
  • Conduct research and preparation for engagements with government and DC based stakeholders and assist in the planning and execution of the company’s presence at industry events. 
  • Provide administrative support to the Government Affairs department activities - including coordinating meeting logistics (e.g., hosting, schedule conferences, catering, distributing agendas and information packets), assist with expense reports, travel arrangements, and basic IT and software requirements, etc.
  • Assists in preparing issues, abstracts, and narrative reports for Bechtel organizations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree preferably in political science, communications, public policy or applicable liberal arts with less than 1 year of experience or 4-5 years of relevant experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree preferably in political science, communications, public policy or applicable liberal arts with less than 1 year of experience or 4-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must have the right to work and remain in the United States without visa sponsorship.
  • Must be able to demonstrate basic to intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint. A skills assessment will be administered to test proficiency.
  • Must possess strong research skills. including the ability to create large amounts of information into succinct research products.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, proper use of syntax, and an understanding of how to write for different audiences.  A skills assessment may be administered to test proficiency.
  • Must possess strong administrative skills.
  • Proven administrative capability including the ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Team player who seeks to become an integral part of an active government affairs team.
  • Must be proactive, have strong organizational skills, use individual initiative and follow assignments through to completion.
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude and work effectively with all levels of internal and external customers.
