Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come.

Job Summary:

 

The Senior Pipe & Valve Engineer will be responsible for planning, developing, coordinating and reviewing plant design and piping work requirements The candidate’s technical input will ensure configuration compliance, procurement requirements are met, and complex issues are resolved. Essential duties include reviewing and generating pipe and piping components, related calculations and material evaluations, in addition to preparation and execution of material requisitions for bulk pipe, valves and supports, and other piping components. This position has technical responsibility producing licensing documents, interfacing with regulators and designers, maintaining the safety case and preparing reports. This position will report to the Plant Design & Piping Engineering Group Supervisor (EGS) on the project and will work in coordination with other engineering disciplines to develop licensing and design documents. This position will require travel to USA for additional training for 30 days or more.

Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Warsaw, Poland office. Part-Time telework flexibility may be an option as the project progresses.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard plant design and piping engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.​ 
  • Examines and analyzes pipe configurations for European Standards (EN) compliance​. 
  • Participates in reviews and recommends approval of design drawings and data for compliance with requirements​. 
  • Participates in studies that require knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed in plant design and piping work​. 
  • Prepares, coordinate, and maintains piping and valve technical specifications, as well as piping material class sheets/specifications.
  • Prepares, coordinates and maintains material requisitions, technical bid evaluations and award recommendations. Performs detailed supplier document reviews.
  • Candidate should have substantial experience with PED directive requirements, UDT knowledge, European Standards (EN) specific requirements and other relevant industry piping codes and standards.
  • Reviews Piping and Instrument Diagrams (P&ID) for piping material applicability.
  • Generates and reviews related minimum wall thickness calculations for piping.
  • Support the dispositions of nonconformance reports (NCRs) and Field Change Documents (FCDs) generated by construction teams.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or in lieu of a degree 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must be authorized to live and work in country without sponsorship.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • FE/PE Registration or Polish equivalent (Preferred).
  • Knowledge of Smart Reference Data (SRD) in creation of Piping Specifications (Preferred).
  • Familiar with development of piping material specifications using SRD tool.
  • Previous commercial nuclear power experience. (Preferred)
  • Detailed knowledge of local Polish, European codes and regulations regarding power plant piping and valves - both metallic and non-metallic.
