Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.  This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.

Job Summary:

As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you must have solid experience in electrical systems and layout design.  Will be capable of developing design documents, including single lines, load lists, and equipment data sheets, that incorporate the applicable design. In addition, it will be required that the candidate has excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), promoting our leadership, quality, and safety values, to external partners including vendors, construction companies, and other subcontractors. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plans and conducts independent electrical work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of electrical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria on a medium size project or assignment in support of a global business unit
  • Leads the design, development, modification and evaluation of components and processes used in the generation, manipulation, transmission, and storage of electricity utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs)
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management
  • Develops conceptual designs for electrical engineering projects or projects having specialized or unique requirements
  • Supports preparation of estimates, staffing needs and schedules
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting
  • Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data
  • Coordinates with client representatives, as directed, to obtain their approval of electrical aspects of the work
  • Mentors electrical engineering personnel by providing on-the-job training for their professional development
  • Provides input to and participates in special technical educational and training programs as directed

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Professional Engineering License (Electrical).
  • Prior experience working in a Nuclear, Quality and Safety Environment.
  • Experience in nuclear plant design (power plant or DOE facility).
  • Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards.
  • Hands-on Microsoft office programs and other computer programs.
  • Extensive knowledge application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and electrical equipment layouts.
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings, systems calculations, equipment sizing and cable sizing.
  • Previous hands-on or extensive working knowledge with ETAP and other industry-wide electrical system design tools, such as CAD 2D, cable designing and routing software.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Familiar with all Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and their application to projects.
  • Experience in construction interface and resolving field problems.

 

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • Familiar with Bechtel standard programs.
  • Knowledge of design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPS).
  • Experience with AP1000 Nuclear Power Plant Design.
