Project Overview:
Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. This position is subject to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulations at 10 CFR Part 810 (Part 810), which govern the transfer of hardware, materials, and technology to support the construction and operation of commercial nuclear power plants overseas.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will provide professional Payroll services.
As a Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely end‑to‑end processing of payroll for employees in Poland, ensuring compliance with Polish labour law, social security, and tax regulations. The role includes payroll calculations, processing of salaries and benefits, preparation of statutory payroll reports, and cooperation with internal stakeholders and external authorities. You will ensure the accuracy of payroll records, support month‑end and year‑end closing activities and contribute to the continuous improvement of payroll processes and controls.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provides professional payroll services in accordance with Polish regulations
- End‑to‑end processing of monthly payroll for employees in Poland, including salaries, bonuses, allowances, and deductions
- Calculation and processing of social security contributions (ZUS), personal income tax (PIT), PPK, and other statutory payroll components
- Preparation, verification, and submission of statutory payroll declarations and reports
- Administration and maintenance of accurate payroll data in payroll and HR systems, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality
- Processing employee absences, sick leave, vacation, parental leave, and other statutory and company‑specific leave types
- Handling payroll‑related inquiries from employees and providing clear explanations regarding payslips, deductions, and benefits
- Cooperation with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers (if applicable) to ensure consistency between payroll, HR data, and accounting records
- Participation in month‑end and year‑end close activities related to payroll accruals, reconciliations, and reporting
- Supporting internal and external audits by preparing payroll documentation and explanations
- Active participation in payroll process improvements, standardization, and automation initiatives
- Ensuring ongoing compliance with Polish labour law, tax regulations, and internal policies.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field, along with prior relevant professional experience in payroll or HR administration roles.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Approximately 3–6 years of professional experience in payroll processing, preferably in a corporate or international environment
- Practical knowledge of Polish payroll regulations, including labour law, social security (ZUS), personal income tax (PIT), and employee benefits
- Experience in preparing statutory payroll declarations and reports for Polish authorities
- Working knowledge of payroll systems and HR tools (e.g. SAP, Workday, Enova, Symfonia, or similar)
- Good understanding of payroll accounting principles and cooperation with finance/accounting teams
- Very good command of the English language, allowing effective communication in an international business environment
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to meet strict monthly payroll deadlines
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with employees and internal stakeholders
- Strong sense of responsibility, confidentiality, and compliance
- Willingness to learn, adapt to regulatory changes, and continuously improve payroll processes.
