Project Overview:

Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility. 

This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity, and we are looking for the talent that will help expand Poland’s nuclear base and build a strong and long-lasting energy future for generations to come. 

Upon initial hire and onboarding, the position will require full time presence in the Warsaw, Poland project office. Part-Time telework flexibility may be an option as the project progresses

 

Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for providing hydraulic and hydrologic (H&H) engineering support to the project and executing specialized activities during the power plant licensing and engineering phases. This position has the technical responsibility of review and interpretation of nuclear licensing regulations and permitting requirements related to H&H analysis and design. Other main responsibilities include origination and/or checking of H&H calculations, preparation of licensing documents, preparation of reports, preparation of design documents such as specifications and design sketches, review of vendor submittals, etc. The ideal candidate will have experience in hydrologic analysis and hydraulic design of plant systems and structures and capable of developing nuclear licensing and design documents that incorporate H&H engineering design. The position will report to the H&H Lead on the Project and will be required to coordinate with on- and off-project H&H engineers, and project staff from other disciplines and functions in the development of licensing and design documents. In addition, it will be required that the candidate has excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and embrace Bechtel’s diversity & inclusion, leadership, quality, and safety values. The position will be based in Warsaw, Poland. Work may require short-term travel to project site and other locations. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Collect, review, and interpret technical data to be used for licensing and design.
  • Originate and/or check H&H documents such as calculations, sections of licensing documents, reports, specifications, etc.
  • Adhere to schedule and budget for assigned activities.
  • Adhere to project execution plan, and quality assurance requirements and engineering procedures and instructions.
  • Incorporate relevant best practices and lessons learned in H&H licensing and design deliverables.
  • Assist H&H Project Lead with engineering tasks needed to advance project delivery.
  • Coordinate tasks assigned to other H&H engineers in consultation with H&H Project Lead 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires M.S. degree in Civil Engineering specializing in hydraulics and hydrology and 3-5 years of relevant experience, or Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering specializing in hydraulics and hydrology and 1-3 years of relevant experience

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to execute flood modeling (including pluvial, fluvial, or coastal process modeling), and hydraulic analysis of structures and piping systems (including large cooling water system, stormwater systems, coastal structures, or erosion and scour protection designs) in support of engineering design and site development.
  • Proficient in the use of H&H analysis software such as HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, SWMM, PIPENET, Delft3D, Mike21/3, ADCIRC, CORMIX, etc.
  • Proficient with GIS tools such as Global Mapper or ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, computer graphics, and other appropriate computer applications to facilitate the compilation and analysis of data collection activities.
  • Experience with coding in Fortran, Visual Basic, Python, MATLAB or C++ in processing and analyzing large spatial and time series datasets.
  • Knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as calculations, engineering study reports, drawings, equipment data sheets and specifications.
  • Ability to resolve design issues with other H&H engineers, other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client.
  • Fluent in English, both verbal and written
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
