Project Overview:
Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational renewables and clean energy projects. Bechtel renewables team will perform the project management, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup for the Mammoth South, Central I and Central II project for a 376MW DC each (total of 1.1GW DC) solar plant in Pulaski County, Indiana.
Job Summary:
In this role, you will manage the organization and direction of project construction activities and oversee total site management including supervision of construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, and finance and accounting. Your leadership will ensure project operations are compliant, safe, timely, within scope and budget, and clients are satisfied. #LI-JL1
Major Responsibilities:
Leadership/Supervision
- Manages the organization and direction of construction and related activities of a single construction project, including actions of Bechtel, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and their representatives.
- Acts as primary client contact for all project field activities.
- Oversees total site management including supervision of construction craft personnel, field engineering, contract administration, cost and schedule, field procurement, finance and accounting services, and craft resource personnel as applicable.
- Maintains client relationship and is the primary contact for client’s communication with the field activities and effective relation with other functional departments.
- Coordinates all project contractual activities and participates in the development of contract, subcontract, or vendor scopes of work, budgets, contract formation, and negotiations.
Planning
- Oversees jobsite expenditures for labor equipment, material, and services and ensures field operations are within the budget.
- Establishes project field procedures and objectives within corporate policies and procedures as necessitated by conditions at a jobsite.
- Develops, implements, and administers a jobsite security plan and coordinates the activities with corporate security department.
Safety & Quality
- Ensures development and execution of Project Automation Plan, Environmental Compliance Plan, safety plan, site survey plan, non-manual staffing plan, subcontracting plan, labor strategy, Construction Execution Plan, and job-site work rules.
- Plans and establishes procedures to ensure construction operations meet engineering designs and specifications.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Responsible for support to SM on managing, coordinating, and administering site construction and supporting activities, including planning, engineering, procurement, construction, startup, performance testing, initial operations, and prime contract close-out. Has overall responsibility for project execution, ensuring that the project is delivered within contract requirements, standards of quality and safety, and to Customer and Bechtel performance expectations.
- Provides overall leadership direction for the project; including the management of project quality, timeliness, safety, as well as mentoring the project team.
- Manages budgets and schedules, manages performance, reports progress, and initiates action to assure program/project objectives and schedules are met and work is performed within budget and according to specification.
- Digital execution implementation - drives program setup and success (GIS, PowerBI, Unifier, Aconex, SmartCompletions, Q4, ComplianceWorks, PEMS, Propeller).
- Providing daily and weekly schedule inputs. Coordinating and leading weekly meeting with all construction/CSU commodities reviewing schedule, actualizing dates, analyzing quantities, and working through construction issues.
- Relevant utility scale solar experience - Direct, hands-on experience managing construction on utility-scale solar PV projects.
- Proven leadership and team management- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams (civil, electrical, QA/QC, safety), subcontractors, and interface with engineering and procurement departments.
- Construction and project management expertise – Ability to review construction schedule sequence, identify trends, reference project budgeting, and make project decisions. Ability to manage work breakdown structures, track milestones, report progress, and adjust resources to keep construction on schedule.
- Strong safety culture – A proven track record of setting the tone for safety, enforcing zero-incident culture, leading daily safety meetings, mentoring crew on safe practices, and holding all parties accountable.
- Technical understanding of construction programs and solar systems – Ensures confident field decision-making, accurate communication with engineers, and QA/QC oversight.
