Project Overview:

Bechtel is building a number of solar projects across the United States, including the Mammoth Solar Project in Indiana.

 

Job Summary:

The Community Relations Lead supports the project’s community engagement and relations management for the project. Reporting to the Site Manager, the CR Lead will be responsible for developing and maintaining a community relations plan that is aligned with customer engagement plans and contract requirements, as well as Bechtel sustainability requirements. #LI-VB1

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact with the customer’s community engagement and communications team, and represent Bechtel during community engagements related to construction efforts.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify and manage key community interfaces and risks with the goal of a program to build and maintain positive relations with the community.
  • Coordinate with the customer regarding community notices and other community engagement and communications plans and materials, including creating and agreeing a grievance mechanism. Draft content for communications materials for community, public and stakeholder meetings.
  • Utilize Bechtel Community and Stakeholder Engagement work processes and toolkits, and be the main point of contact for sustainability goals and requirements. Set up and use stakeholder engagement database.
  • Attend regular construction update meetings to keep informed about the construction schedule and progress and to create a community engagement construction lookahead tracker.
  • Coordinate with ES&H and Construction to foster the project’s minimization of disturbance to local residents, including control of noise and dust, and seek to create proactive communications regarding construction nuisances, as well as site restoration planning and activity.
  • Participate in traffic and logistics planning to identify routes, hours, and other details that might be of concern to the community, based on coordination and input with the customer and community stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with project manager for required attendance to project-related community meetings, landowner meetings, to report on progress, answer questions raised, etc. Work with project management team and customer regarding job fairs and other such events.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Degree in journalism, public relations, or other social science discipline or Associate's degree with IAP2 certification.
  • Experience performing community relations activities on a construction project.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as being a good listener.
  • Creative approach to identifying and solving problems.
  • Experience attending and organizing public or targeted stakeholder events.
  • Collaborative approach to working with colleagues, customers and communities.
  • Knowledgeable about and experience working with the public agencies and local government is desirable.
  • Familiarity with IAP2 is a plus.
