Job Summary:

Mechanical Engineering Lead has design and detail engineering experience in Combined Cycle Power projects. The candidate will be responsible for leading engineering activities in mechanical discipline on a project, or designated portions of a project, for a global business unit. Plans and perform engineering assignments on the project.

The candidate shall lead a team of engineers and designers and is responsible for providing technical support to the Project Engineering Manager/Project Engineer.

Candidate shall have knowledge of design / selection / engineering of power island system, cooling water system, feed water, condensate and other BOP/ utility systems. Candidate should have worked for execution of Basic/Conceptual Engineering, FEED, EPCM, EPC modes of execution for Indian and International projects.  

The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. Candidates should have conceptual and detailed design experience with exposure for plant construction, start-up and operations.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Review, Supervise/Guidance of deliverables by the Mechanical team
  • Supervision / Guidance to the Mechanical team, ensuring quality for the deliverables /work done.
  • Develop / assist in documentation for progress reporting, tracking mechanism for team deliverables
  • Ensuring quality for the deliverables / work done by the team.
  • Managing cost and schedule for the assigned activities
  • Handling team issues. Performance evaluation and development of the team members  
  • Support project / proposal activities
  • Review of PFDs, PIDs, MSDs, datasheets, project specifications, material and service requisitions, technical bid evaluations, system descriptions and collect necessary input required for simulation
  • Interact with Global offices, execute work on workshare mode.
  • Assist project/proposal activities
  • Coordinate technical issues with other departments on projects 
  • Develop standard documentation for use on projects
  • Implement/Capture Lesson Learnt
  • Travel to assist activities at other engineering offices, supplier’s works, construction sites

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university and 18+ years of relevant work experience
  • The Mechanical Engineer will work as part of Global Bechtel team and should have basic flair for working with personnel of different nationalities. Should have a good proficiency for spoken and written English language.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Design and optimize power plant systems such as GTG, STG and balance of plant.
  • Knowledge of Gas Turbine Generator (GTG) and Steam Turbine Generator (STG), Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSG), Air Cooled Condensers (ACC), Boiler Feed Pump (BFP), Condensate Transfer Pump (CTP) etc.
  • Conversant in development, review of System engineering, P&ID development, Design Criteria, Design calculations (example, flow and pressure-drop calculations), system sizing calculations for steam and water cycle, operation and control philosophy.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations for turbine selection and integration.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
  • Develop and review technical specifications, design documents, and engineering drawings.
  • Preparation of material requisition, technical bid evaluation and vendor design review and approval.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Proficiency in software application such as GateCycle™, GT PRO and ST PRO for gas turbine combined cycle and cogeneration plant design and optimization
