Job Summary:
The Materials Engineering Technology (MET) team is increasing capabilities to support Bechtel global projects. We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Corrosion and Coatings Engineer/Specialist, who independently performs professional engineering/scientific assignments in support of Bechtel Global Business Units projects. This position requires advanced understanding of engineering/scientific principles for protective coatings, linings, and non-metallic construction materials, especially as it relates to corrosion mitigation. Non-metallic materials include paint, polymer linings, and to some degree insulation. Skills include proper material selection for defined conditions and process stability and cryogenic services. This specialist will represent Bechtel in discussions/presentations to clients, management, or senior technical personnel.
The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate.
Major Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will report to the Chief Engineer (Materials Engineering Technology) and essential job duties will include the following:
- Thorough knowledge of materials and application of industrial coatings.
- Understands the application of Engineering Department Procedures, relevant Bechtel design guides and specifications.
- Has a broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability, as pertinent to construction methods and materials.
- Understands engineering planning and control methods, including computerized methods.
- Understands the roles played by other project disciplines, including basic construction practices and economics.
- Understands industry or regulatory codes/standards and design criteria pertinent to the coatings.
- Skilled in oral and written communication.
- Ability to co-ordinate work with other engineering disciplines.
- Implement / Capture Lesson Learnt. Actively pursue Value Engineering, design, and cost optimization program.
- Interaction with Global office / Home office (abroad), execute work on workshare mode.
- Participates in and fosters a work environment that is based upon openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Specific capabilities and experience required for the role:
- Able to handle multiple projects.
- The candidate will work as part of Global Bechtel team and should have a basic flair for working with personnel of different nationalities. Should have a good proficiency for spoken and written English language.
- Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods.
- Good understanding of the link between work processes and tools/applications.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- A recognized degree in materials engineering, polymer science or chemistry from an accredited college or university, or Recognized diploma/degree in materials engineering, polymer science or chemistry from an accredited college or university.
- A professional license in an appropriate engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board such as ISO, SSPC (Protective Coatings Society) or AMPP/NACE, or
- Sufficient number of specialized courses in relevant materials engineering or appropriate engineering disciplines to meet job requirements, and
- Practical work experience (5 to 10 years) or relevant experience in engineering sufficient to demonstrate competence.
- Certification as a Protective Coatings Specialist.
