This is a short term assignment with an anticipated assignment duration of 6 months.


Job Overview:

This position is for a Senior Mechanical Engineer supporting National Aerospace Solutions (NAS).  NAS is a Bechtel-led limited liability company selected to perform Test Operations and Sustainment for the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee. The Complex has played a role in testing nearly all of the United States’ top priority aerospace programs, from fighter jets and missiles to Apollo rockets and weather satellites.

In this position, located in Tullahoma, TN, the engineer will support system design development and analysis of liquid and gas mechanical systems and equipment.  This design and analysis will include sizing, material selection, and analysis of piping and pumps by preparing studies, drawings, calculations, specifications, data sheets, and evaluations in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. Successful candidate will work with estimating, mechanical engineers and other technical disciplines in a team environment. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.


 Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate within the engineering group and other disciplines and groups independently in developing the preliminary system design and equipment identification in a team environment
  • Resolve technical issues related to the discipline independently, including any required interface with other disciplines, groups, suppliers, and the customer
  • Execute to schedule requirement while maintaining a high degree of quality in work product
  • Support development of project cost and schedule estimates, as necessary
  • Coordinate closely with other technical disciplines in planning and executing work as an integrated team


 Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related), from an accredited university, with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, P&IDs, calculations, and specifications for Mechanical systems and equipment on power plants, refineries or chemical process facilities.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
  • US citizenship required.  No dual citizenship.


 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to utilize office automation tools effectively.
  • Knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards, as well as Bechtel Corporate guides and standards.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of Mechanical engineering design principles.
  • Obtainment of Engineering in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering in USA within 12 months of hire


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior work experience in execution center environment and demonstrated flexibility in work assignments.
  • MS degree in Mechanical or related Engineering, from an accredited university.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in USA (Mechanical or related Engineering).
  • Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.
  • Possess an active security clearance or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
