Project Overview:

This is a multi-year large EPC project to design & build multiple facilities for the US Air Force to enhance their test capability. The project is considered ‘greenfield’ and includes the design of a new test facilities that will require designs for supporting utility systems such as high-pressure air (HPA), cooling water, electrical power (high, medium (4kv) and low voltage), switch gear, substation, ductwork, piping and vacuum/exhauster capacity tied in to major test facility infrastructure already in place. In addition, the facility may include a scrubber system for emissions mitigation, heat exchangers (plate and tube type). The supporting utilities will be designed to maintain independence to the existing plant infrastructure and services. The main test facilities will have high speed data acquisition systems. Major equipment will include large vacuum compressors, high pressure air compressor, and large high pressure cooling pumps with associated control valves.  The project potentially includes major building and foundation (civil works) design and construction. Project kick off is underway with execution planned through 2026.

The project execution office will be close to Arnold AFB which is about 70 miles from Nashville, TN.


Position Summary:

This position is for an Electrical Engineer who will prepare designs for Electrical systems associated with the US Air Force facilities. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.



Primary engineering activities will be to provide the engineering design for the electrical systems and equipment for the entire facility. Individual must have an understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, system descriptions, system calculations, 1-line drawings, schematics, electrical equipment layout and be able to size and specify equipment and perform cable sizing calculations. Performs special tasks and calculations/studies. Conducts checking as required. Properly interprets and applies codes & standards and customer design requirements, for applicability to electrical design documents, specifications, material requisitions, and system descriptions related to design tasks.

Must be a self-starter and capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry-proven concepts, and procedures. Must work well with others, other disciplines, and groups. Must be able to effectively communicate and work well with others and within a team. Must be able to work well with other disciplines and functions.


Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • Level One - BS degree in Electrical Engineering, from an accredited university, with 1 year of related electrical engineering experience; in lieu of a degree 7 year of related electrical engineering experience.
  • Level Two - BS degree in Electrical Engineering, from an accredited university, with 3 years of related electrical engineering experience; in lieu of a degree 9 year of related electrical engineering experience.
  • US Citizenship required.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NFPA, ANSI/IEEE, etc.).
  • Working knowledge on electrical systems, schematics, and electrical equipment layouts.
  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment specification and material.
  • Experience with industry-wide electrical design tools, such as CAD 2D, ETAP, and Cable Management System.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Level One - MS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Level Two - MS degree in Electrical Engineering, from an accredited university, with 1 year of related electrical engineering experience.
  • FE/EIT Certification.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel corporate guides and standards.
  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
