Job Summary:

The Safety Specialist II supports the implementation of project ESH programs by performing both administrative and field tasks in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. This role applies occupational safety practices to manage safety and health aspects of projects or facilities, with a primary focus on fieldwork. The position reports to the Night Shift ESH Lead or Night Shift Construction Manager.

Work requires physical ability for field inspections, including walking on construction sites in extreme heat or humidity, climbing ladders and scaffolding, working at heights or on uneven surfaces, and entering confined spaces. Must be able to wear assigned PPE (e.g., harness, life vest, gloves, etc.).

"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and will require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership”. #LI-AM3

Major Responsibilities:

•    Develop a positive working relationship with the crews, field supervisors, and subcontractor representatives
•    Integrate safety and health requirements into all project phases, including planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning and start up.
•    Provide technical assistance on risk assessments, ESH plan development, and program implementation to project teams.
•    Research, interpret, and apply organizational and regulatory requirements; prepare clear documentation and technical reports.
•    Support work planning and conduct safety reviews to ensure compliance and best practices.
•    Assist in the development and delivery of safety plans, permits and training programs.
•    Participate in emergency response activities and incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
•    Communicate safety requirements effectively and ensure their integration into project plans, contracts, and daily operations.
•    Conduct regular field inspections, monitor ESH performance, and ensure compliance with all applicable standards.
•    Apply trend analysis to focus on field oversight and interactions with crews and subcontractor
•    Develop and disseminate safety communications using various media (e.g., presentations, bulletins, digital platforms).
•    Collaborate with and support other ESH team members across all ESH disciplines as needed.

Education and Experience Requirements:

•    A Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in occupational safety, health, or a science-related discipline from an accredited university or college with 3 or more years of experience related to safety or occupational health; or an Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in one of the same disciplines with 5 or more years of relevant experience; or 8 or more years of relevant safety or health experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply regulatory and organizational requirements (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing and report preparation.
  • Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to conduct field inspections, program audits, and manage corrective actions through completion.
  • Proficiency with computers to develop reports or presentations, manage data and reports.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing digital safety management software to oversee ESH processes.
  • Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various weather conditions.
  • Ability to support multiple work shifts, as needed, and a wide range of field related tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license.Experience in developing or delivering safety training or presenting to diverse audiences
  • Ability to work in multicultural, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Knowledge and experience with ISO 45001 Management System and OSHA standards.
  • Professional certification (e.g., ASP, OHST, CSP, CIH) or progress toward certification is highly desirable. 
  • Broad technical knowledge, science skills, and technical writing abilities.
