Project Overview:

TROJENA (The Mountains of NEOM) will be an iconic, world-class destination, blending natural and developed landscapes and will offer unique experiences for residents and visitors alike. Located in the northwest of Saudi Arabia in the region of Tabuk just 50km from the coast, TROJENA will be a destination like no other on earth. Based upon the principles of eco-tourism facilities will include a folded vertical village, a lake with water sports and event facilities, high altitude ski village, observatory, world leading health and wellbeing facilities and a nature reserve which will be home to unique wildlife, heritage sites and exploration opportunities. With over 3,600 hotel, 2,200 homes, 9 iconic buildings and 100 world class indoor and outdoor experiences Trojena will become the ultimate mountain destination. Bechtel will provide a full range of project management services to assist the delivery of this iconic destination.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be leading the implementation of Trojena sustainability requirements on this new area development that will be designed to attract around 700,000 tourists and 7,000 residents, with distinctive “clusters” responsive to their site conditions and development plans. The scope includes a number of infrastructure projects and development clusters as well as temporary and enabling works. You will be working as a part of a multi-disciplinary and multicultural management team and apply your sustainability experience and knowledge to appropriately integrate sustainability (“regenerative development” requirements into the design and construction contract work packages, per applicable sustainability rating requirements e.g. Envision and LEED. #LI-AR2

Major Responsibilities:

  • Support selection of sustainability rating systems targets and oversee implementation of the requirements of LEED/SITES/WELL/Envision Platinum Award Level requirements during design and construction stages in line with NEOM’s Regenerative Development Objectives
  • Collaborate with multiple project stakeholders to integrate sustainability requirements into project design and construction to ensure that the activities are aligned with NEOM's broader sustainability aspirations. 
  • Monitor the performance of design consultants and construction contractors throughout project stages and provide feedback and recommendations to ensure adherence to sustainability standards and best practices.
  • Preliminary review of the deliverables for sustainability compliance and supporting documentation prior to submission for the certification agency’s review
  • Review the compliance of various  sustainability management plans with applicable rating requirements.
  • Collaborate with the NEOM Environmental sector to ensure project alignment with the Regenerative Development Framework and understanding new mandates and their implication.
  • Provide technical support and spread sustainability awareness to the team members from other functions on sustainability requirements.
  • Identify  risks to achieving sustainability goals and propose mitigation activities and report these to project management and the customer
  • Collaborate with design and construction teams to resolve any conflicting design requirements, and promote use of innovative and environmentally enhanced design concepts.
  • Monthly reporting of sustainability activities, achievements and challenges to the customer. Use and refine the sustainability progress dashboards using smart data management to provide timely updates to the leadership of the Project Delivery Team and the Customer.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) in Engineering or architecture and a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience with emphasis in sustainability strongly preferred. Accreditation, experience and knowledge of sustainability rating systems Relevant experience in the KSA or the Middle East and a sound understanding of the cultural norms and requirements of the region is most helpful. 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Self-driven and able to plan and execute work without direct supervision from senior management and/or peers
  • Able to effectively lead a team and develop good working relationships in a distributed and cross-functional team environment. 
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, changing priorities and work with ambiguity.
  • Experience and ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with customers
  • Flexible and adapt to working in a demanding Project Management Organization (PMO) environment, including the ability to work rin a remotel area with accommodation provided. 
  • Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic engineering and construction practices and the economics involved as well as the ability to listen and collaborate to achieve goals.
  • Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the sustainability discipline.
