Project Overview:

Bechtel Infrastructure works in a Delivery Partner role within an integrated team with the customer organization for the Ontario Line Project in Toronto, Ontario.  The project scope includes the design build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment, being performed by two key PPP Contractors (Project Cos) and other Contractors for the balance of the scope.  The project interfaces with both the City of Toronto (COT) and Toronto Transit Commission (TTC).  Bechtel form a key component of the overall Integrated Project Delivery team (comprising the customer, Metrolinx; the Technical Advisor, and Bechtel as the Delivery Partner).

Job Summary:

In the role of Senior Project Manager - MEP, you will be responsible for oversight of engineering and construction services throughout the project lifecycle and accountable to ensure designs meet the delivery/constructability need of construction. You will also be responsible for construction readiness and supervision, making sure that the contractor is meeting their contract and schedule management, construction quality, site safety and security requirements. #LI-SP1

Major Responsibilities:

Leadership / Supervision 

  • Delivers project from initial conception and procurement through commissioning and handovers within scope, on budget and on schedule, in accordance with good project management and construction practices
  • Manages complex project issues and risks, facilitates effective conflict resolution, communicates with internal and external stakeholders, and manages their expectations.
  • Manages the efficient delivery of project elements through project activities, including preliminary design, detailed design, construction, contract management and commissioning activities.
  • Carries out robust assessment of the contractor schedule and supervises the development of risk assessments and robust mitigation measures 

Planning / Productivity 

  • Monitors objectives related to engineering progress, document control, budget and work breakdown structures, project schedules, resource prioritization, and staffing requirements.
  • Ensures that contractors’ construction plans and schedules are complete, workable, and in accordance with contract documents;
  • Oversees contractors’ compliance to contract provisions, including monitoring safety, quality, environmental compliance, cost, and schedule performance.

Safety & Quality 

  • Implements Project ES&H program 

Technical 

  • Assists the development and assessment of alternative construction and installation methodologies in accordance with best international practices.
  • Monitors the contractor’s performance and compliance with the contract
  • Prepares and monitors the strategic goals and objectives of the project

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Partners with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives​.
  • Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinates​.
  • Participates in the development, modification, and execution of company-wide policies​.
  • Able to lead the work/ delegate for a senior group manager.
  • Demonstrates progressive experience in capital project management and implementation, including at least ten years of experience managing large, complex, multi-year transit projects, preferably elevated stations, elevated guideway, operating system, and related works.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience of construction engineering, construction processes and value engineering.
  • Project management experience to manage assigned multi-disciplinary projects of high value and complexity and supervise staff engaged in all stages of project management from start to close-out.
  • Leadership skills, including interpersonal, presentation, communication, negotiation, and consensus building, and the ability to manage a diverse group of project specialists and consultants to accomplish the goals of the agency within established scopes, schedules, and budgets.
