Position Summary

The growth in renewables and energy wider transition requires flexible generation and long duration energy storage. The Bechtel Heavy Civil Infrastructure business is responding to this global challenge and growing its capability in the development and construction of Hydropower and Pumped Storage projects globally.

 

Bechtel is engaging in several pumped storage development s around the world, including in North America where we are seeking an experienced Project Engineering Manager to lead the technical development and delivery of major projects.  

 

In support of our plans to further develop this project, the Project Engineering Manager will participate in all stages of the project lifecycle, including conceptual design, FEED, detailed design, and project execution.  The Project Engineering Manager will contribute to technical feasibility studies, value engineering, cost development and strategic planning for the project. Reports to the Project Manager and/or the Functional Manager of Engineering.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical insight and value engineering during development of engineering designs.
  • Coordinates technical scope with Construction and Procurement Functions.
  • Provides support to Business Development, securing new work and external engagement.
  • Manages multi-discipline team executing conceptual design, FEED and project execution.
  • Provides leadership and inspires performance of the project team.

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS/MS Degree in Geotechnical, Civil, Hydraulic, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of relevant experience.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineering License preferred.
  • Experience of design development, feasibility studies, detailed design and/or owner's engineering work (technical specifications, tenders’ evaluations, design review, construction supervision).
  • Sufficient demonstrable professional experience in the hydropower and pumped storage industry, ideally with an international developer, consultant or contractor.
  • Demonstrable engineering skills and experience including civil structures, dams, tunnels, generation plant and powerhouse complexes.
  • Specific areas of technical expertise would be viewed positively:
    • Large hydropower or pumped storage design and construction.
    • Experience of dams and large hydraulic structures.
    • Knowledge of geology and geotechnics.
    • Tunnelling and underground works experience.
    • Experience with design and integration of M&E equipment.
    • Experience with layout and construction planning of major hydropower or pumped storage projects.
    • Management of multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, procurement, construction.
