Project Overview:

Bechtel is appointed as the Delivery Partner, supporting our customer Metrolinx as part of an integrated team, to help deliver the signature Ontario Line Subway Project, a transformational transit project for the Greater Toronto Area. The multi-billion-dollar project scope includes the design, build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment, being performed by two Public/Private Partnership (P3) Contractors, two Progressive Design Build Contractors and multiple advanced/early works contractors. 

 

Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. #LI-SP1 

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and directs subcontractor system activities, through coordination and instruction of subcontractors' management staff within the area of responsibility.  
  • Role supports on large projects of high complexity with multiple stakeholders’ involvement. 

Planning 

  • Reviews and monitors subcontractor construction schedules, resource charts, and material and equipment requirements. 
  • Reviews and approves where necessary, subcontractor construction methods, schedules, manning charts, and material and equipment requirements. 
  • Leads the construction operations impact on external interfaces to ensure they coincide with the overall established schedules. 
  • Review contractor deliverables (scope)
  • Reviews construction drawings and sketches. 
  • Reviews construction drawings and schedules and the design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of "as built" drawings and other job plans.  

Safety / Quality 

  • Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements 
  • Implements and enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by field construction management. 
  • Ensures zero accident philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely. 
  • Attends Hold points and verifies Quality Control activities as per ITP
  • Review Contractor safe system of work

Technical 

  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents 
  • Coordinates engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals. 
  • Coordinates with Design on constructability issues
  • Proactively considers continuous learning or shows interest to pursue appropriate learning activities 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Required bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience or 14-17 years of relevant work experience
  • 8 years of Heavy Civil or Stations experience 
  • Experience with local codes and standards.
  • Experience working with teams and stakeholders in the development and delivery of large infrastructure projects. Ability to communicate across technical disciplines (engineering, construction, operations, maintenance).

 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Successful Construction Management track record on a major multidisciplinary projects
  • Demonstrated technical writing, data management, verbal communication, presentation, and teaching skills.
  • Computer skills (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of management and supervisory functions relating to field activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).
