Project Overview
Bechtel has been appointed as the Delivery Partner, supporting our customer Metrolinx as part of an integrated team, to help deliver the signature Ontario Line Subway Project, a transformational transit project for the Greater Toronto Area. The multi-billion dollar project scope includes the design build, operations and maintenance of all infrastructure and rail systems associated with 15 stations and over 15km of new alignment.
Position Summary
Bechtel is seeking a Project Director to lead the delivery of the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations (PTUS) works, a > 1-billion-dollar progressive design build (PDB) contract as part of the north segment of the Ontario Line project. The Project Director, as part of the client’s integrated leadership team, will be fully responsible and accountable for managing design, engineering and commissioning by the contractor and be the primary source of sound professional oversight of project delivery, cost and schedule performance, the client’s compliance with regulatory and stakeholder requirements, procurement, risk management and construction expertise and judgment in all phases of the project works. Working with all project stakeholders, the Project Director will champion the customer’s goals while promoting our values of fairness, diversity, inclusion, trust, and collaboration guided by our Vision, Values and Commitments.
Responsibilities
- Manage the PDB contractor to achieve the client’s budget, schedule, safety and quality standards.
- Provides overall supervision and project management leadership to the PTUS project.
- Lead and motivate a diverse team of project professionals, including engineers, contractors, and support staff.
- Coordinates integration of PDB contractors activities during design, construction and commissioning with other works contractors;
- Supports the client’s stakeholder engagement and external communications programs.
- Ensure project schedules are developed and implemented so that deliverables are provided in a timely and cost-effective manner to all stakeholders.
- Support and lead (as required) at meetings convened by the Sponsors with the Contractor to review project work schedule.
- Track, monitor and communicate performance against project requirements, quality measures, milestones and KPIs.
- Review status reports from project teams/vendors and address issues with program or portfolio impacts as appropriate.
- Implement approved processes and procedures to ensure successful execution of projects.
- Manage the interface with the project Technical Authority for the works to see that compliance requirements are met to allow completion and handover.
Qualifications and Skills
Basic Qualifications
- Professional Degree in Civil/ Structural/Electrical/Mechanical with P. Eng in Ontario or equivalent preferred, and a minimum of twelve (12) years’ experience in project management of large Infrastructure projects of $500M+ value.
Additional Qualifications
- Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team of professionals.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience leading projects in an integrated with the client team.
- Experience leading projects through a collaborative progressive delivery model.
- Experience and/or understanding of contract management and administration.
- Experience in construction project management, estimating, scheduling, and QA/QC.
- Experience in developing and leading a project health and safety culture and proven performance in safety leadership.
- Experienced in delivery of multi-disciplinary rail infrastructure projects.
- Experience and technical knowledge of tunnelling, transit station construction in urban areas is an asset.
