Project Overview:
The project is a greenfield lithium development located in Northern Nevada, USA and is the largest known lithium resource in the United States. The Project will be a high energy environment with around 2,000 jobs created during construction over a 36-month period. Bechtel is the engineering, procurement, and construction management contactor for the lithium processing facilities, with significant self-perform construction scope, taking direction from owner Lithium Americas and interfacing with several other companies contributing to the overall project.
Job Summary:
Bechtel is seeking an experienced stakeholder engagement professional to support workforce integration for Bechtel’s scope of the Project. As a leader within Bechtel’s project management team, the Social Performance Advisor will provide guidance and consultation to support successful outcomes related to Bechtel’s community relationships, workforce integration and social impact management. This role will focus on building positive relationships, facilitating open communication, promoting workforce diversity and inclusion, and implementing best practices for integrating Bechtel personnel with local communities. This role will play an important role in fostering positive social relationships throughout the project’s construction phase.

Major Responsibilities:
- Acts as the primary liaison between Bechtel, Lithium Americas, and community stakeholders, supporting open communication and constructive relationships.
- Support Lithium Americas with community engagement and issue resolution as requested, working closely with the Community Relations Lead to proactively address social risks and impacts, including workforce behaviour, traffic, and community access to services.
- Coordinate workforce integration initiatives, including cultural awareness programs and activities that encourage positive interactions between the workforce and local community.
- Work with the Workforce Hub operator to promote active, healthy lifestyles for residents and identify opportunities to collaborate with local charities and organisations on community building activities.
- Monitor community sentiment and emerging concerns—both real and perceived—through ongoing engagement and intelligence gathering, maintaining awareness of issues that could influence project reputation or social licence.
- Develop and maintain stakeholder maps, interaction registers, and grievance registers to support transparent trend tracking, timely follow up, and clear reporting.
- Implement rapid response protocols for construction related grievances and inquiries, supporting prompt and respectful engagement with stakeholders.
- Provide strategic counsel to project leadership on emerging reputational risk and social considerations associated with project decisions. Collaborate with the Project Communications Lead to anticipate issues, contribute to communications materials, and support alignment across internal Bechtel channels and externally through Lithium Americas.
- Work directly with Bechtel project teams to identify economic participation opportunities, understand and minimise social impacts from construction activities, and strengthen relationships with local communities.
- Support the Workforce Services Manager with localised engagement related to the Workforce Hub, contributing to efforts that minimise social impacts and promote positive integration of the workforce into the community.
- Partner with the Workforce Services team to encourage constructive community interactions and support activities that build pride and connection in the town.
Education and Experience Requirements:
• Relevant university degree in communications, journalism and/or social performance related fields with proven 5 plus years experience in engagement, social performance, and/or communications for major mining/energy/infrastructure projects.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
• Advanced understanding of social impact management and sound understanding of planning processes on construction projects.
• Advanced experience in issues and risk management in a community context; proven ability to anticipate and respond to emerging reputational risk and proactively manage social licence.
• Expert analytical, consultation and strategic planning skills; ability to balance short and long-term priorities and manage simultaneous commitments; ability to define project goals and deliverables and implement key programs on time and within budget.
• Excellent judgment; heightened sense of personal and corporate ethics
• Advanced communication skills (oral & written) including negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
• Competent user of Microsoft Office suite of products.
Additional Information
This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction and operational conditions. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
