SUMMARY

The Workplace Relations Advisor is responsible to support Bechtel, WSA Co and Principal contractor Project supervision in effecting good day to day employee relations environment, including:

constant liaison with and provision of support to (Project) Supervisors and Superintendents of Bechtel and Principle contractors to affect a consistent approach to the compliance with Workplace laws and contractual requirements (whilst preserving the responsibility of all Principal contractor’s), and; liaison with Project principal contractor’s nominated Workplace Relations representatives to the extent necessary to affect a good day to day employee relations environment.

 

JOB DIMENSIONS

A    Supervision Received

  • Reports to and receives operational and functional guidance from the Project Workplace Relations Manager.

 

B    Contacts

  • Day to day operational contact with Bechtel and WSA Co supervision, management, WHS representatives, contracts, HR.
  • Day to day operational contact with Principal contractor supervision; WR team members, and training & development team.
  • Day to day operational / functional contact with Bechtel Workplace Relations team members & Workplace Relations Manager.

 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Workplace Relations representative is principally responsible for:

  • Understanding and personally complying with Project environmental, safety and health philosophy, systems and requirements.
  • Pro-actively supporting the implementation of the Project’s environmental, safety and health systems by:
  • Attending Pre-Start and Tool Box meetings;
  • Immediately correcting observed breaches, unsafe acts or conditions;
  • (In the event that correction is not possible) Reporting observed breaches, unsafe acts or conditions.
  • Attend Principle Contractor progress meetings as a representative of Workplace Relations.
  • Assist with the coordination (e.g booking and confirmation) of the Project orientation with the Bechtel WHS training and Principle contractor representatives.
  • Assist with the accurate data collection and reporting of the Project Workforce Initiative Targets.
  • Conduct periodic audits of Principle contractor Workforce Initiative data collected for verification.
  • Assist with the collation, formatting and reporting on Workplace Relations for Project monthly report.
  • Maintenance of industrial relations statistics and logs.
  • Conduct periodic audits of compliance on Principal Contractor
    • Workplace Relations Management Plans.
    • Indigenous Participation Plans.
    • Workforce Development and Engagement Plans.

      And report on findings and corrective actions to the Workplace Relations Manager.

  • Audit Principal contractor on site facilities including crib and ablutions.
  • Monitoring and Identification of potential and emerging areas of poor employee relations and industrial relations performance and elevate to Workplace Relations Manager
  • Ensuring compliance, and support to Bechtel and Principal Contractor Supervision/Management in the consistent application of the Contractor’s Workplace Relations Contractual requirements.
  • Assist with the development of the Project specific Workplace Relations procedures and process.
  • Assist where necessary in presentation of the workplace relations component of the Project Orientation.
  • Collation and maintenance of workplace relations reporting and statistical information.
  • Assist Communication Manager with effective communications and reward & recognition initiatives.
  • Other tasks as designated by the Workplace Relations Manager.

 

JOB KNOWLEDGE

 The Workplace Relations Advisor shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:

 

  • Major project construction Employee / Industrial Relations in a unionised environment;
  • Knowledge of Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth), Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) Building Construction industry (Improving Productivity) Act 2016 and The Code for Tendering and Performance of Building Work 2016
  • Ability to interpret industrial agreement terms, conditions, & remuneration;
  • Ability to liaise with workforce at all levels & supervision providing support and advice in the interpretation and application of Workplace laws;
  • Must speak English and hold excellent communication skills written and verbal.
  • Must be authorized to work in Australia without sponsorship.
