Risk Manager

Role Description: 

Support the management of risk within the project, through overseeing the general risk activities of the team’s risk engineers and analysing data to identify & evaluate programme risk.


  • Manage project risk through the facilitation of risk workshops at all levels from strategic to function/task level; assist risk team members as necessary.
  • Act as the programme’s risk manager; provide all risk management support, including reporting.
  • Support the Project Controls Manager in ensuring that all project team members comply with the risk management strategy, plans and procedures, and other risk specific requirements for their assigned scope of work.
  • Administer project ARM risk database and ensure quality and accuracy of data therein; maintain, update records, and review risk team updates to ensure a high standard of risk management data.
  • Support the production of detailed project risk reports as required within the programme’s reporting cycle.
  • Support continuous improvement of risk management activities within the project team through identifying and recommending improvements for implementation.
  • Administrator for the risk tools and systems that provide the interface between project functions, Customers, and other stakeholders.
  • Comply with risk management plans and procedures; maintain team standards.
  • Carry out risk treatment planning and control activities as necessary.
  • Evaluate cost and schedule uncertainty to determine risk; produce analysis and reports as necessary.
  • Review and approve detailed project and programme risk reports produced by the risk team; includes monthly and ad hoc reporting.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement of procedures as necessary to ensure that risk management is embedded within the project going forwards.
  • Assist the Project Controls department with the production of dashboards and monthly reports, focusing on contractually required deliverables.
  • Contribute towards the continuous improvement initiatives relative to risk management, project controls and wider process enhancement methodologies.


Personal attributes and skills


  • Qualifications in engineering, construction, project management or related field.
  • Commitment to a “safety first” culture and practice in all activities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
  • Good knowledge of risk management on major civil infrastructure projects, including risk quantification.
  • Collaborative, problem solving approach, willingness to assist in driving a risk management culture throughout the broader team.
  • Well organised, ability to work to deadlines and follow through on issues.
  • Sound understanding of the application of risk management software.
  • Adherence to organisational values and consistent, sound judgement and ethical behaviour in making and influencing decisions.




  • 2 Years minimum experience.
  • Experience as a risk manager on major projects, preferably in both client-side and contractor-side roles.
  • Experience in facilitating risk management workshops and obtaining input and ownership of risk management processes by the wider team.
  • Experience in using risk management software.
  • Experience in quantitative risk assessment and analysis.
  • Experience in reporting and advising senior managers on risk management matters, including implications for cost and schedule.
