Package Manager - Master Technologist

Bechtel, a global leader in project management, engineering, procurement and construction, has been selected by WSA Co as its Delivery Partner and Project Manager (Definition) for the Western Sydney Airport, a $5.3 billion greenfield facility in Badgerys Creek, New South Wales. This will be a landmark project for both New South Wales and Australia, and is due for completion at the end of 2026.

Western Sydney Airport will provide much-needed additional aviation capacity to meet growing demand in the Sydney basin and improve access to flights for people in Western Sydney. The preferred candidate must have an ability to effectively communicate with a variety of technical and managerial professionals experienced in the design and operation of unique facilities that support airport special systems and airport network integration.

Work Location: Liverpool, south-western Sydney.


  • Forecast and organize project design development and production delivery
  • Develop package scope and strategy and manage the tender process
  • Manage the package execution including control of schedule cost and scope/technical baseline
  • Ability to successfully lead/organize a team of multiple disciplines and consultants
  • Address project issues following protocol and procedure in order to reach the best solution
  • Establish and maintain client/owner relationships
  • Public speaking and networking.
  • Execute projects from conception through client handover with a positive result contribution on technical performance, financial results and the organization
  • Manage the Airport special systems design from mechanical, hardware, system and network design and integration of different components.
  • Manage requirements, integration, configuration, and software changes.
  • Report project progress and status to the Project Manager and Execution Manager (Project Status Report including risks and opportunities)

Job Knowledge

  • Knowledge of front-end activities including:
    Best Practices/Lessons Learned;
    Risk Analysis/Contingency Evaluation;
    Estimate/Proposal Review Process.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Bechtel standard tools, techniques and procedures including:
    Automation, including standard office tools
    Records management
    Root Cause Analysis


  • Degree in engineering or related field with a minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience the majority of which should be in the design and delivery of airport network integration related projects
  • Worked with all project sizes including large projects valued at $500 million plus
  • Self-directed with clear and succinct communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize multiple tasks and adjust work to meet unexpected client driven deadline changes
  • Proven effectiveness coordinating with internal stakeholders, technical specialists, and consultants
  • Apply strong special systems and detailing skills and proficient in design management processes
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Detail oriented and organized with proven experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Project with familiarity of AutoCAD and Revit
  • Excellent writing skills
