Job Summary:
In this role you will support BEO’s global machine control and telematics operations, with a direct focus on remote equipment troubleshooting, installation, and dedicated project training. The role requires extensive technical knowledge and experience in heavy construction, telematics and machine control technologies. #LI-TH1
Major Responsibilities:
- Support all telematics and machine control operations globally.
- Responsible for remote, and in-field troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and installation of machine control and telematics equipment while maintaining an excellent level of productivity and customer satisfaction.
- Communicate with the various Hardware and Software Providers to identify and troubleshoot issues.
- Monitor reports generated by systems to ensure systems are working properly.
- Support Project personnel when issues are encountered.
- Provide on-site training for machine control and telematics systems for projects, both domestic and international.
- Support a global, multi-tier training program for machine control and telematics to end users and construction management team members.
- Leverage technology in creating training programs; e-Learning, social media, etc.
- Ensures all firmware and software is always current on all equipment
- Assist the machine control and telematics Connected Fleet supervisors with implementation of cutting-edge technologies and industry best practice.
- Support and participate in the evaluation and implementation of new and emerging technologies
- Support the “Bechtel Machine Control Operations Center of Excellence” at BEO in Sugarland, TX.
Safety and Quality
- Monitors and ensures that the quality of work performed meets requirements.
- Enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by BEO management.
- Ensures Zero Accident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others when in the operational area, and tools and equipment are in safe condition and in safe operational order.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Engineering/Technical degree and 3 years’ experience in heavy construction, with direct installation and troubleshooting experience with Machine Control Systems and Telematics support or 6 years’ experience in heavy construction, with direct installation and troubleshooting experience with Machine Control Systems and Telematics support (in lieu of a degree).
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience operating heavy equipment
- Have mechanical skills and ability to work with machine control and telematics systems and equipment
- Possess exceptional low voltage electronic/wiring skills to install and troubleshoot machine control and telematics systems
- Knowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired over time through specialized instruction or practical experience
- Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to heavy construction, field & office machine control operations, as well as engine driven and non-engine driven telematics
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment, able to formulate a working relationship with construction team members, other departments, contractors, and survey functional management
- Displays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise manner
- Self-starter with the ability to set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity
- Demonstrates experience working with multiple Equipment, Machine Control, and Telematics OEM’s
- Demonstrates experience working with dissatisfied customers and the ability to resolve issues and improve our processes
- Demonstrates proficiency utilizing machine control and telematics software/firmware
- Demonstrates experience with machine control and telematics equipment and technologies, including: Telematic API feeds, CAN bus systems, low voltage connections, GNSS, Laser, Robotic UTS, 2D and 3D systems
- Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
Additional Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of Bechtel safety and quality standards
- Bilingual Spanish English
- Prior experience on Bechtel projects
- General awareness of environmental laws and government compliance standards
