Project Overview:

Saudi Arabian Bechtel Company is appointed to provide executive project management consultancy services (including technical, commercial, and construction management) for the development of certain defined aspects of the NEOM Infrastructure in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”

NEOM is a new destination being created in the Northwest of Saudi Arabia. Job Summary:

Bechtel is seeking a Sustainability Specialist based at Sharma, KSA. In this role, you will be a representative of the Sustainability functional group to ensure that the sustainability requirements are well understood by the construction contractors in a timely manner and implemented in the works in accordance with sustainability requirements. You will report to Project Sustainability Manager and Deputy Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

Understand NEOM’s Regenerative Development Objectives and apply the requirements of Envision, LEED Platinum Award Level and IgCC/SBC requirements in design and construction

Perform the review of engineering and construction documents, associated activities impacted by sustainability requirements across the project execution stages and ensure implementation of sustainability requirements

Coordinate with design consultants and construction contractors to resolve issues associated with application of Envision, LEED, IgCC, SBC and NEOM’s Regenerative Development requirements

Manage 3rd party sustainability rating systems’ submission packages, if in accordance with the sustainability institution’s certification process

Identify gaps in the design, prepare and implement Recovery Plans

Perform work that involves resolution of conflicting design requirements, promote use of environmental friendly materials and/or difficult coordination requirements

Review Embodies Carbon Calculations, LCCA, Daylight and Energy Assessments, and complete data review/analysis for energy and water

Coordinate with EPM Environment, Design Review Team and Construction Teams for appropriate information required to support asset certification

Research sustainability innovations across industry, regulatory requirements globally; apply into projects

Engage with NEOM Environmental Sector, Design Consultants, Construction Contractors throughout the design review cycle and construction to monitor progress and performance

Arranges meetings, workshops where required with all the relevant stakeholders, good in record keeping

Help the Sustainability Lead in managing and delivering the sustainability goals in accordance with the Programme and the requirements of the client

Education and Experience Requirements:

A recognized degree in engineering with a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience with emphasis in sustainability strongly preferred

relevant experience preferable with sustainability credentials leading to a thorough understanding of the technical knowledge described above across infrastructure projects of significant size and complexity, preferably within rail transit system

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Ability to manage client expectations and deliver within agreed parameters.

Knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, sustainability, and contract administration.

Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook

Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.

Knowledge of the use of subcontracts; knowledge of the contractor/subcontractor’s responsibilities contained in subcontract documents.

Prior experience supervising and administering subcontractors.

Strong influencing skills to manage and motivate teams to adopt sustainability requirements

Ability to manage multiple assignments, changing priorities and work with ambiguity

Relevant experience in the KSA or the Middle East or any other country and a sound understanding of the cultural norms and requirements of the region.
