Environmental Assurance Specialist


The Sustainable Development Division within the NEOM Environment Department is searching or a dynamic and innovative professional with marine ecology expertise to join the Environmental Assessment and Monitoring Team. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for an experienced career professional with highly developed technical knowledge and organization skills. 

An application with a marine ecology background – particularly coral reef experience.

This role is critical to implementing the Environmental Assessment and Approvals function, including communicating NEOM’s environmental and sustainability standards to NEOM departments and contractors, and providing advice on marine ecology issues.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation and management of an environmental program for the construction of built assets.
  • Monitor and assist in the mitigation of environmental risks associated with the construction of NEOM assets.
  • Assist in the application of world-class standards of environmental protection to the construction of NEOM assets.
  • Supporting the Manager – Environmental Execution & Assurance in developing and coordinating an Environmental Assurance Program
  • Implement and enforce an effective environmental assurance management system for the construction and operation of built assets.
  • Review of Construction Management Plans and Method Statements developed by the contractors.
  • Ensure that environmental and sustainability requirements are effectively implemented during all development phases – demolition - construction – operation – decommissioning.
  • Communicate and articulate NEOM environmental requirements (Environmental Codes of Compliance) to construction contractors, suppliers and service providers, NEOM partner organizations, etc.
  • Enforce Environmental Codes of Compliance for construction activities and sector facilities within assigned regions of responsibility.
  • Provide technical expertise in the areas of compliance management of coastal/marine/island developments.
  • Provide technical expertise in the areas of compliance management of demolition/contamination/hazardous materials.
  • Manage and conduct compliance inspections of contractor construction activities and auditing of contractor submissions and records.
  • Anticipate and prevent environmental risks before they occur whenever possible.
  • Reporting, and acting appropriately in response to, non-compliance events.
  • Ensure that project monitoring and reporting regimes are applied across the project.
  • Identify, report and support efforts to address any deficiencies in the environmental capacity of contractors that could compromise their ability to meet all NEOM environmental requirements.
  • Communicate regularly, developing strong relationships across the organization and stakeholders.

  • Strong technical environmental skills across terrestrial, marine and coastal environments
  • Good people management and mentoring skills.
  • Proven record of successfully implementing environmental supervision on major construction projects.
  • Track record in delivering environmental protection services on major projects of a similar scale which include marine/coastal construction works.
  • Preferable experience spanning the program life cycles from conceptualization, initiation, engineering, construction, handover to close out and operations. 
  • Must have as minimum a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences (or related discipline) and ideally a master’s degree.
  • Proven track record working with contractors to provide informed and authoritative supervision of construction works to deliver compliance assurances outcomes.
  • Experience of compliance management of coastal/marine/island developments.
  • Experience of demolition/contamination/hazardous materials management.
  • Minimum of ten (10) year-experience in the field of environmental site supervision & management.

The duration of engagement starts between asap and extends until 31st October, 2021 but may extend for a couple of months post this date.


Living Conditions:

Living and Working on the NEOM Project is a single status assignment condition located in Sharma, KSA with camp accommodation (Meals and Laundry Services provided).


Due to COVID 19 challenges during the startup of the project special flights and quarantine accommodations will be provided.
