Project Overview:
Bechtel is pursuing a significant new award of work in Egypt. The Project will cover the development of luxurious residential, commercial, and recreational spaces, tourism amenities, and economic zones. If successful, Bechtel’s contract for the delivery of this project will be for project management and construction management services.
Job Summary:
The successful candidate is expected to work independently and will report to the project’s Geotechnical Engineering Lead or their designee. They will also liaise with other geotechnical engineers/engineering geologists assigned to the Project Execution and Engineering Teams and will liaise with Bechtel’s functional Geotechnical Manager or their designee, as needed.
In this role you will provide field oversight and coordination of construction-related activities with an emphasis on earthworks. Expected oversight is associated with excavations, compaction, ground improvement, slope stability, temporary retaining systems, etc., but could also include geotechnical investigations. Role will include co-ordination with Bechtel’s project team at the site and at the home office.
This is expected to be a long-term (>1 year) field assignment in Egypt.
Major Responsibilities:
- Reviews and becomes familiar with scopes of work and technical specifications related to geotechnical activities at the site.
- Ensures that technical requirements are enforced.
- Coordinates and oversees the work of Contractors performing geotechnical-related activities at the site.
- Interfaces with field representatives from Bechtel, contractors performing geotechnical-related activities at the site and/or other consultants.
- Attends meetings and tracks contractors’ activities as required by the project.
- Maintains regular communication with the project’s Geotechnical Engineering Lead.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- An M.S. degree in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology with a minimum of 8 years of working experience in the field, or a B.S. in Geotechnical Engineering or Engineering Geology and minimum 10 years of experience. Degrees must be from an accredited institution.
- Professional registration is preferred.
- Demonstrable advanced proficiency in areas provided under Required Knowledge.
- Should be familiar with geotechnical software (or equivalent) such as gINT, Plaxis, LPILE, Slope/W, etc.
- Should have hands-on experience in earthworks and other geotechnical-related construction activities for large-scale international projects.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Broad based knowledge of geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics.
- Knowledge of earthworks, including compaction equipment and methodology and related field testing.
- Broad knowledge of processes in field engineering for large scale projects.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements in large scale construction projects.
- Proficiency in English. Arabic is beneficial.
- Experience in Middle East / Egypt is preferable.
