Job Summary:

In this role, you will direct the efforts and activities of the Business Development team in building relationships with customers, potential partners, and strategic/key suppliers. You will be responsible for identifying and obtaining new business, and managing preparation, strategy, and negotiation of proposals. Your leadership will be essential for generating future projects and growth at Bechtel. #LI-MJ1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Directs the efforts and activities of the Business Development managers/representatives in maintaining, improving and/or building relationships with customers, prospective customers, potential teaming partners, and strategic/key suppliers  
  • Actively seeks understanding of customers' present and future plans for growth, projects, and programmatic and technical requirements  
  • Conducts research of current and future markets for present and new services for the organization  
  • Follows up on jobs lost to competition to determine the reasons why Bechtel was not selected and monitors the competitor's project performance  
  • Manages the preparation of proposals, including obtaining engineering, estimating, procurement, legal, and labor inputs  
  • Recommends commercial strategy and pricing  
  • Participates in proposal and pricing reviews and makes specific recommendations to senior management on request  
  • Participates in final proposal presentations and negotiates Bechtel responsibilities and fee with clients  
  • Directs the preparation and ensures corporate approval of contracts for awarded projects/studies  
  • Recommends new services and new industry markets that the company should actively pursue  

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 15+ years of relevant experience or 19+ years of relevant work experience
  • 10+ years of experience in business development, engineering, or project operations within industrial sectors.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of internal and external BD processes, including typical industry policies and procedures.
  • Proven success in leading strategic pursuits and managing complex client relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and close high-value deals by identifying opportunities, evaluating alternatives, and influencing outcomes.
  • Relentless energy and tenacity to push forward promising deals while navigating internal and external barriers.
  • Strong understanding of contract models, risk frameworks, and commercial strategy.
  • Delivery-focused mindset with the ability to structure and execute plans to meet time-sensitive business goals.
  • Creative problem-solving skills with adaptability to evolving challenges and stakeholder dynamics.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to assess new markets, analyze competitors, and define winning pricing benchmarks.\Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with Bechtel’s M&T clients and teaming partners.
  • Exposure to semiconductor, energy, or advanced manufacturing sectors.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools and proposal management systems.
  • Ability to navigate between business strategy and tactical prospect development.
  • Strong networking and relationship-building skills across the full stakeholder value chain (customers, suppliers, partners, consultants, competitors).
  • Cultural alignment and regional awareness to engage effectively with diverse customer bases.
  • Leadership by example—personally leading prospects, coordinating proposal teams, and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
  • Active participation in industry associations or civic organizations.
