Job Summary:

In this role, you will evaluate, select and apply standard process/chemical engineering methods to research, design, develop, and evaluate components, products, and systems. You will prepare process equipment and systems specifications and assist in the specification of suitable materials. Your work will contribute to ensuring process/chemical activities are safe, operable, and environmentally sustainable. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Developing design criteria, PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances and process calculations for water systems with minimal supervision.
  • Performing work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Coordinating engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  • When delegated, assuming a lead technical role over other engineers for completing specific tasks.
  • Preparing or assisting in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  • Preparing and/or assisting in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Reviewing and checking work of subordinate engineers.
  • Fostering a working environment that promotes transparency, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and motivation.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in the Water sector: Water Treatment Technologies and Equipment, Desalination, Water Chemistry.
  • Practical work experience in process engineering design.
  • Ability to develop design criteria, PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances, process calculations and functional descriptions.
  • Produce a well-structured report that logically assess various options and then put forward a recommendation.
  • Broad knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design.
  • Understanding of engineering planning and progress control methods.
  • Understanding of the roles played by other departments on projects including basic construction practices and the economics involved.
  • Understanding of industry or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
  • Skill in oral and written communication both in Spanish and English. Fluency in technical English.
  • Site experience will be advantageous.
