Job Summary:
In this role, you will handle project labor relations activities, leading complex employee relations investigations, and resolving employee disputes including work stoppages. You will interpret contracts, enforce work rules, and participate in negotiations. Your work will facilitate positive labor relations on the construction project, minimizing problems that may lead to work stoppages and schedule delays.
Major Responsibilities:
- Interpreting and administering applicable labor union contracts (LR – Labor Relations) and enforcing work rules. Keeping abreast of labor laws and related legislation applicable to construction labor union employees (LR).
- Working along with the jobsite Safety representative, being responsible for field implementation of Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) programs as they pertain to craft personnel.
- Working with subcontractor representatives performing work on the construction project to ensure labor contracts are interpreted correctly and work rules are enforced uniformly (LR).
- Analyzing immediate and/or anticipated labor problems, deciding on and implementing corrective actions to prevent work stoppages and construction schedule delays, and implementing craft process improvement programs at the jobsite level.
- Analyzing jurisdictional work assignments based on local precedents and practices (LR).
- Conducting and/or providing guidance in conducting informal and formal grievance hearings in accordance with applicable labor union contract procedures (LR).
- Interfacing with craft workforce, construction leadership, client, and general public.
- Coordinating the project in LR/IR/WFS (Labor Relations / Industrial Relations / Workforce Services) activities including employee investigations, reprimands, terminations, data entry in Craft Human Resource Information System (CHRIS), communications, and training/coaching, and ensuring the activities conform to company and site policies/procedures and legal requirements.
- Producing various written project and LR/IR/WFS communications.
- Performing investigations regarding employee misconduct or other ER (Employee Relations) issues, and recommending appropriate disciplinary or corrective actions according to the work rules.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree related to the position, and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience in managing labor unions.
- Knowledge of labor relations.
- Knowledge of current labor legislation.
- Leadership of work teams.
