Project Overview:

Mining and Metals:

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will be responsible for the cost estimation, analysis and control activities for projects with significant non-routine requirements or for cost activities that require a high degree of technical skill. You will prepare cost studies, review cost trends and develop and implement project requirements for cost control. Your detailed analysis will provide innovative solutions to cost engineering challenges.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine cost estimation, analysis and control activities as directed.
  • Coordinating the non-routine cost engineering/planning and scheduling needs of the projects.
  • Coordinating the implementation of cost monitoring and control standards, techniques, systems and reports.  
  • Coordinating the development and accuracy of cost reports.
  • Preparing specific budgets according to established standards and procedures.
  • Collecting and classifying cost data.
  • Performing budget allocation and reporting/cost control regime for a specific construction discipline or a group of disciplines.
  • Identifing and preparing cost trends for management's attention.
  • Managing change management and trending Capex.
  • Performing the development of project-specific account codes and recommendation of appropriate modifications and revisions.
  • Performing the development and application of unit rates (cost and working hours) to quantity breakdowns.
  • Preparing cost studies using historical data, statistical analysis and cost and quantity comparisons.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering (or international equivalent) and 8-10 years of relevant experience or 12-14 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in Project Control/Cost Management.
  • Experience in engineering and construction management projects, ideally in mining, usually acquired over time through specialized instruction or hands-on experience.
  • Experience in engineering, procurement, contracting, construction and commissioning processes, according to Bechtel's operational standards.
  • Demonstrated experience in the execution, monitoring and evaluation of cost engineering activities, including cost estimation, cost control and cost analysis.
  • Experience in trend preparation, change management and trending Capex.
  • Ability to review design scope criteria and quantities for completeness and reasonableness, and coordinates with the project to develop additional estimation bases.
  • Demonstrated ability in budget/forecast monitoring and cost and commitment analysis.
  • Experience in preparing cost studies using historical data, statistical analysis and cost and quantity comparisons. Develops innovative techniques to meet needs specific, as needed.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial reporting systems and control accounting codes, as well as a solid understanding of the relevant Control instructions that impact Project Controls, such as Project Financial Status Reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to work in a team and be proactive.
  • Strong command of Microsoft tools, especially Excel, and desirable handling of Power BI.
  • Proficiency in the use of EcoSys software.
