Position Summary

Bechtel is seeking a Process Engineer for the Mining & Metals team, based in Chile. The position will be responsible for developing and leading Engineering Studies, e.g. Tradeoff studies, conceptual, technology application, scoping, and any study up to FS. The Process Engineer will provide guidance on the sizing and selection of comminution circuits including SABC/Stage Crushing and HPGR’s. They will have experience in process test work campaigns, interpretation of test results, and development of process design criteria. They will have a comprehensive knowledge of the latest industry trends in comminution design. Also, the specialist is expected to take part in on-site visits, resolve complex operational problems applying specialized engineering, scientific principles, and applied technology.



The Process Engineer is principally responsible for:

  • Serve as consultant to clients and/or internally to project and specialty engineering or scientific groups providing advice and counsel on special and unique assignments.
  • Review process engineering or scientific concepts, studies, drawings, calculations, and specifications.
  • Interface with client personnel to determine their needs, develop the scope for studies and cost estimates for service and participate in proposal preparation and presentation.
  • Provide guidance and direction to engineering personnel in the development of advanced design criteria and specifications.
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation of drawings, design concepts, process sheets, procedures, and concepts.
  • Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.
  • Present technical information at industry forums and internal technical meetings.


Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

The Process Engineer shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university as well as 15+ years of work experience relevant to the industry sector for which the CCoE serves 5+ years working in an operating mineral processing facility.
  • The Comminution Process Specialist will document relevant aspects of his activities and keep up-to-date project, operational, technology information in the CCoE folder.
  • Applicants are expected to have 15 years or more of relevant experience in projects and operations of Mineral Processing Plants, including crushing and grinding areas

Additional Qualifications

  • Commissioning experience and plant ramp-up of a comminution circuit.
  • Process software simulation tool knowledge including JKSimMET, Bruno, and others.
  • Thorough understanding of scientific engineering systems, calculations, applications and construction methods and materials, and engineering or scientific application of computers.
  • Understanding of industrial and regulatory standards and design criteria in the engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Knowledge of sector-related design and execution practices and cost influences involved.
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills.
