Mining and Metals:
Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to plan, prepare and coordinate pre-commissioning, commissioning, and commissioning activities for successful delivery of the facilities. When required, the CSU Process Engineer will move to the field where he/she will develop commissioning plans, programs, manuals, test procedures and associated documentation. The CSU Process Engineer will interact and participate in regular meetings with the Client and with other Bechtel offices, mainly those in Houston and New Delhi. Interaction and meetings with other Bechtel offices are conducted in English.
"This position is designated as part-time telework per our global telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project. Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership
Major Responsibilities:
- Participating in the development of pre-commissioning, commissioning and commissioning strategies, including plans, programs, protocolization, and green tag and blue tag sequence aligned with the completeness of the construction and commissioning requirements.
- Coordinating with Design engineering, suppliers, construction teams, integrators and client.
- Drafting of start-up procedures, daily progress reports and final documentation (handover dossiers).
- Identifing and participating in the resolution of process systems, mechanical, and SCADA/control problems.
- Interpreting and applying P&IDs, control narratives, and design documentation relevant to their activities.
- Participating by providing their input during the design phase to improve commissioning results and systems.
- Promoting a safety culture at all times during field activities.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university with 6 to 8 years of relevant work experience in commissioning and commissioning of water treatment plants, to integrate the Water team of the ERW discipline (Environmental, Regulatory and Water), based in Chile.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Intermediate-advanced English level and proficiency in technical English. Proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Direct experience in the field leading and/or executing commissioning and commissioning activities of water treatment plants.
- Experience in multiple water treatment processes/applications.
- Skills for reading and interpreting P&IDs, one-line diagrams, and control narratives. Familiar with tools applicable to field commissioning activities.
- Skills to work methodically, analytically, and with a strong problem-solving orientation. Excellent communication skills.
- Coordination with other Engineering disciplines and other functions such as engineering, project control, procurement, construction, operations, as required.
- Experience Experience in Design Engineering will be valued.
- In-depth knowledge of PLC, DCS, SCADA, control loops and instrumentation systems to verify the correct operation of the equipment.
- Ability to develop, execute and supervise test procedures (hot and cold testing) including performance testing.
- Strict knowledge of safety procedures (Lockout/Tagout - LOTO) to ensure safe working conditions.
- Critical ability to diagnose faults in real time under pressure.
- Ability to lead technical teams of subcontractors and suppliers during the testing phases.
- They must be able to produce a well-structured report in which several options are logically evaluated and a recommendation is presented.
- Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design.
- Understanding of engineering planning and control methods.
- Knowledge of the roles played by other departments on projects, including basic construction practices and economics.
- Knowledge of industrial or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria relevant to the engineering discipline in question.
- The CSU engineer will have a high commitment to safety and quality.
