Project Overview:

Mining and Metals: 

Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. At Bechtel, our teams extract these vital resources to support net zero in a way which is more sustainable than ever before.  

Job Summary:

This role, will be responsible for planning and managing the execution of all PD&P-related engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle. Key responsibilities include monitoring progress, leading and coordinating the PD&P (Plant Design and Piping) discipline, providing technical guidance, and assigning work to engineers, designers, drafters, and other personnel involved in the development of 3D engineering designs.
The position requires independent interaction with vendors, project field personnel, and client representatives to obtain, exchange, and clarify technical information. Coordinating closely with all engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration and successful project delivery.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing discipline deliverables, ensuring compliance with project requirements, schedules, quality standards, and applicable codes and regulations.
This position reports directly to the Project Engineering Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring all work for compliance to project standards & applicable codes.
  • Planning and scheduling all discipline related deliverables in accordance with contract and interna schedule dates.
  • Planning, developing, coordinating and reviewing Pd&P engineering work.
  • Reviewing and approving key design documents, supplier drawings and data, material specifications, drawings, and change orders.
  • Implementing and enforcing best practices for safety protocols, risk assessment and hazard identification within the team.
  • Preparing or overseeing the preparation of discipline estimates and work plan in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, and supports implementation and assists with performance reporting.
  • Providing technical input to meet procurement requirements.
  • Creating and maintaining project schedules, budgets and resource allocation, in order to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of the project’s deliverables.
  • Optimizing facility layout based on piping and instrument diagrams, client requirements, current technology, and operational and maintenance requirements.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a technical degree related to Industrial Design, and at least 13+ years of relevant experience. 

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Willingness to be flexible and capable of supporting the execution of Multiple Tasks
  • Experienced in mining project design, managing design teams, and overseeing engineering deliverables from concept through detailed design.
  • Strong knowledge of 3D plant layout and piping design platforms, with preference for experience in Hexagon Smart 3D (S3D)
  • Experience using engineering control tools 
  • Good English skills (desirable).
