Position Summary

Bechtel is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for the Mining & Metals team, based in Chile. The position will be responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed phases of engineering work for a global business unit usually in one discipline in a project or staff group. Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials and/or difficult coordination requirements.

 

 

Responsibilities

The Mechanical Engineer is principally responsible for:

  • Performs work using Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).

  • Coordinate engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.

  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.

  • Performs or assists in the performance of problem analysis and original design.

  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.

  • Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.

  • On a large project, performs assigned activities in one discipline, interfacing with related tasks being performed in more than one discipline within a single area.

  • On a small to the medium-sized project, performs assigned activities in one discipline interfacing with other disciplines in all areas of the project.

  • Assigned to a single discipline within a single area of a project.

  • On a large project, performs a variety of assigned duties, interfacing with related tasks being performed within a single discipline.

  • On a small to the medium-sized project, performs assigned duties relating to all activities within a single discipline and interfacing with related tasks being performed in more than one discipline.

  • Receives technical direction in the form of moderate supervision. 

 

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

The Mechanical Engineer shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, 2 years of relevant experience AND experience in sizing and calculation of equipment and material handling projects of large-scale mining concentrators for both dry and wet areas. It is preferable to use knowledge and experience of programs like Pro belt, SideWinder, Chute Maven, Fluid flow, Epanet or equivalent.

 

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in planning, coordination, generation and review of specifications, data sheets, equipment, and material requisitions, bid evaluation and issuance of the recommendation of equipment and materials.

  • Basic skills in oral and written communication. English level: medium.
