Project Overview:

The increased production of critical minerals provides key components for clean energy technologies, from wind power systems to batteries. This shift toward clean energy—and the demand for commodities—is essential to sustaining the energy transition.

Job Summary:

This role is responsible for mechanical equipment packages, requiring strong management capabilities and leadership in recurring interdisciplinary meetings with clients and/or plant equipment suppliers. In coordination with other disciplines, the role ensures validation and review of optimal technical solutions.

In this position, the individual will lead and execute design activities, as well as develop, modify, and evaluate mechanical components and processes in continuous collaboration with other disciplines.

Their recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure compliance with the complex and unique mechanical requirements of the project.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Design mechanical equipment and systems for mining projects, including water, slurry, and solvent pumps, distribution systems, pneumatic transport, material handling, and related systems.
  • Perform calculations and analyses leading to technical design recommendations for equipment sizing and selection.
  • Prepare material requisitions, specifications, data sheets, and other technical documentation related to procurement of mechanical equipment.
  • Lead and participate in supplier evaluations and technical bid evaluations.
  • Coordinate with mechanical designers to produce designs and drawings in accordance with project standards.
  • Coordinate work and collaborate with other engineering disciplines and company departments. This includes aligning mechanical engineering efforts with specialized groups, engineering teams, clients, suppliers, contractors, construction teams, and other functional groups.
  • Develop conceptual studies, designs, reports, and proposals.
  • Provide technical support to mechanical personnel and interface with project and client functions to resolve complex regulatory issues, applying knowledge of industry codes and standards.
  • Support project management and construction teams in identifying and meeting mechanical project requirements and addressing issues arising during project execution.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Civil Engineering (or equivalent), minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience in mining and metals.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven experience in equipment sizing and selection, material handling systems, tanks, agitators, etc.
  • Field experience in the mining industry (mandatory).
  • Knowledge in developing and analyzing calculations for water, acid, and slurry systems.
  • Knowledge of calculations for air systems, HVAC, storage systems, and fire protection systems (preferred).
  • Ability to effectively apply technical knowledge and skills to solve a variety of problems, complete assignments, and provide guidance and advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a significant level of professional autonomy.
  • Intermediate to advanced level of written and spoken English.
