Project Overview:
Mining and Metals:
Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. This shift to clean energy—and the need for commodities—is critical to underpinning the energy transition. Job Summary:
In this role, you will manage all information related to P&IDs and mechanical equipment packages in a copper concentrator plant. You will conduct internal meetings and coordinate with clients and/or vendors to define work scope, technical and design specifications, and prepare quantity and cost estimates for the mechanical aspects of the project. You will lead design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes, ensuring proper interaction with other disciplines. Your recommendations will resolve technical issues and ensure the unique and complex requirements of a project’s mechanical aspects are met.
Major Responsibilities:
- Coordinating and administration of P&IDs and/or mechanical packages, acting as the person responsible for documents and scheduled activities within the project.
- Designing engineering development for mechanical equipment and systems in mining industry projects, including pumps (water and slurry distribution networks), grinding circuits, and other related systems. Proven experience with process equipment in a copper concentrator is an essential requirement.
- Reviewing and/or preparing conceptual studies, calculation reports, designs, technical reports, or proposals.
- Being responsible for material requisitions, specifications, data sheets, and other technical documents related to mechanical equipment procurement.
- Developing and lead vendor evaluations and technical bid assessments for the purchase of mechanical equipment.
- Coordinating with mechanical designers to produce designs and drawings according to project standards.
- Coordinating and supervise mechanical P&ID designers to produce drawings according to project standards.
- Coordinating work and collaborating with other disciplines and engineering areas within the Company. This involves aligning mechanical efforts with all assigned areas and specialized groups, engineering disciplines, the client, vendors, contractors, construction teams, and other functional groups.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires a Mechanical Civil Engineer (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Experience in engineering development for mining projects.
- Experience in P&ID management, database updates, and review of equipment, valve, and/or line lists.
- Knowledge of dry and wet area equipment applied in projects and equipment required for mining industry processes.
- Knowledge of material handling equipment (will be considered an asset).
- Knowledge of design and calculation of material handling equipment in concentrator plants (desirable).
- Knowledge of development and analysis of calculations for water and slurry networks (mandatory).
- Knowledge of calculations for air networks, HVAC systems, tanks, and fire protection systems (desirable).
- The candidate must effectively apply technical knowledge and skills to solve a variety of problems, complete tasks/assignments, and provide guidance and advice.
- Intermediate to advanced level of spoken and written English (will be valued).
- Proven oral and written communication skills.
