Ujina Growth Project:

The mining area is located 185 km southeast of Iquique, at 4,400 meters above sea level, in Tarapacá Region. The main objective of Doña Inés de Collahuasi’s project is to increase the concentrator’s throughput capacity from an average of 170 ktpd to 210 ktpd. Currently, the awarded service corresponds to the execution of Package PG1 - the first of three packages contemplated for this project - which involves the detailed engineering and procurement (EP) of six flotation cells, and on-site support during the construction phase. Service for package PG1, which began on August 1, 2023, is a continuation of the study phase (FEL3) and is expected to be completed in February 2025.

Job Summary:

In this role, you will participate in the design, development, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes. You will collaborate and support other engineering disciplines for mechanical matters. Your professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard mechanical engineering techniques and criteria will enable you to make impactful contributions to the team. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Participating in the design, development, modification and evaluation of mechanical components and processes used utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).​ 
  • Compiling, adjusting, and correlating data that will develop professional work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard mechanical engineering techniques, procedures and criteria utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards and guides, and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).​ 
  • Providing input to and/or maintains technical logs and records​. 
  • Coordinating work and collaborating with other engineering disciplines​ .
  • Providing direct support to other engineering disciplines for mechanical related matters.​ 
  • Coordinating development and presentation of material when requested.
  • Preparing or assisting in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals. 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree in Civil Mechanical Engineering or related, and 1-2 years of experience or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Broad knowledgeable of mining and hydrometallurgical equipment, in particular bulk materials handling equipment, and hydrometallurgical equipment related to processing lithium ores.
  • Operate with considerable professional autonomy.
  • Advanced communication skills in English.
  • Knowledge of systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of analyses and development of project deliverables within the discipline.
  • Knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to selection of design features within the discipline
  • Knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods
  • Knowledge of precedents in the discipline and of principles and practices of related disciplines.
  • Knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic calculations, and pipe stress analysis would be beneficial and preferred.
  • Broad knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards, and design criteria pertinent to the discipline.
  • Good knowledge of Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
